CTS-V Wagon

My buddy has one. Big power, and lots of potential for even bigger power. The 'unicorns' are apparently wagons with 6MT. What's the spec on the one you're looking at?
I drove my buddy's car (sedan with AT). I think the AT really dulled down the car's responses, but the car overall is really laid back and a *****cat otherwise. At low speeds of course. Get on the throttle, the car seems to take a deep breath, and then just goes like a bat out of hell.

I guess I was looking for more feedback in comparison to the C55. Upgrade, downgrade, etc.
Spec was '11-12 CTS-V Wagon in Diamond White w/ the Recaro seats and automatic transmission, since this would be a DD, and honestly, I would look forward to have the shifting done for me and keeping the suspension setting in "comfort" for the daily commute.

That thing is a beast.
"It will leave you questioning the laws of physics. A 6.2L supercharged V8 engine with 556 HP and 551 lb.-ft. of torque propels the CTS-V Wagon from 0–60 in 4.0 seconds. Its Eaton® supercharger incorporates a twin 4-lobe rotor design that enhances quietness while optimizing performance."

I almost bought a CTS-V as the replacement for my C55. It was between that or a Corvette. I wanted a 2012 Opulent Blue Metallic sedan or wagon, black wheels, yellow calipers, 6MT, Recaros, and the suede steering wheel and shifter. My exact car was out in Texas and it sold a week before I got my C55 sold. While I was waiting for another one I decided to go with a Corvette instead. One reason was I didn't really want to go with a larger car than the C55 because I liked its nimbleness compared to an E-Class. I have some thoughts every so often about maybe I should have waited and bought the V though. Unfortunately, I just hadn't had enough seat time in the V2 to know whether I would have really been happy long term and I knew I'd be happy with a Corvette. The V certainly didn't feel as big and heavy as it is on the two I test drove but I've had so much seat time in Corvettes (not really much performance driving since they weren't my cars) I knew I could drive it every day should I want to. The manual really is the way to have the V though in my opinion, felt so much better than the automatic.

What kind of Corvette did you get?
Viper, if you check through my threads, I posted one last summer comparing a drive in my buddy's CTS-V AT sedan with a C63. That same friend also ran on the track last weekend, here's his vids and some mbworld discussion on the subject (his screen name is insomniac):
https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...-tune-c63.html
So I was surprised that the lightly modified C63 could be so close to the V. I thought the V would just stomp all over just about any NA C63, but weight is a huge factor.
That said, I think the V is a lovely car - lots of car for the price. There are lots of neat convenience features, like remote start as standard. But it is a bigger car, and for some people that's a bit of a turn off. On the other hand, if you need the extra space - for kids or whatever - then maybe that's a plus. Pretty bad on gas though, LOL.

I bought a 2012 Grand Sport 100th Anniversary Package.
The extras on the V would have been nice, like the ventilated seats! I really wanted a manual this time (even though my DD Cobalt SS is a manual) and I also wanted a GM that I'm not worried about being able to work on. Although my C55 never gave me any problems that I needed equipment/tools I didn't have to fix, it was always in the back of my mind. The C63 coupe is a fantastic looking car though and the facelift in 2012 really did the W204 well. Plus, GM performance parts are significantly cheaper and have a better market to resell down the road if I ever sell this one. I still have the CLK63 brakes from my C55 but I sold all the parts from my Trailblazer SS within weeks.

I would have snatched up the CLK63 brakes if I wasn't focusing on saving for a 911 - I figure every dollar spent on the C55 for 'fun' mods is another dollar keeping me away from that 911, so....
I wanted a C63 for the longest time, but actually after that comparison drive in my friend's CTS-V and the demo C63 last summer I turned off the idea. I also reckon that I have enough trouble deploying the C55's 360hp without getting into trouble, pushing down 500hp+ in a C63 is almost a waste of the car. That's when I turned off getting a C63 and into the 911 idea. Just have to find the right one. But in the meantime, I'm quite happy putzing about in my C55. Other than relatively dated electronics (rectified by aftermarket stuff) and AWD for winter, I don't think I could ask for more in a nice daily driver. Solution - waiting for depreciation on the current E63s... Or maybe just 'giving up' on the performance sedan thing and getting a Range Rover Evoque. I've realized that even though it's nice to have a winter beater, I spend so much bloody time in it (half the year!) that it would be nice to have a better quality year round daily. That might mean giving up the C55 at some point, but not anytime soon. My wife's warned me that once I get into a 911, there will be no more car purchases for the foreseeable future!
But back to the discussion at hand - my buddy was also seriously considering a C63 before he got the V. Subjectively, I prefer the C63 for looks and the badge. Objectively, the V is a better deal for price and features/gadgets. Not to mention, as 91RS mentioned, mod costs. Apparently the headers and tune C63 in the videos cost about $5k in mods. Cool, sure, but $5k in mods for a CTS-V gets you headers, tune, pulley, upgraded heat exchanger, and a lot more power etc etc. Okay, that's comparing NA to forced induction, but still - Mercedes and AMG 'tax' is much more than GM 'tax'.

2009 C63 K1
I had a bought a new 2009 C63 and loved it. May be my favorite car that I ever had. After the warranty expires the cost of maintenance is ridiculous. Add tire replacement and I was spending 2-3K/year just to keep it on the road. Now have a 2013 CTS-V Wagon. Love it too. Features are nice and the ride when not on sport is absolutely amazing. Sooo comfortable. But when turned off the car handles ridiculously well for as heavy as it is. It actually handles better than the C63 but not as fun to drive. C63 steering is better IMO. I have the AT and wish I had the MT though.

Bringing this thread back up. Shortly after I started it last year, a month later I purchased an SL65. So the idea went away...
Now I'm looking for another car again, so thinking about a Maserati GranTurismo S, but unfortunately those are still looking to be a little bit more than I want to spend. So CTS-V wagon has come into the picture again, but more importantly, I've also recently become very fond of the coupe. I think I can score some good ones for under $40k, which is not bad. What do you guys think? (short of the badonkadonk)

I think the coupe is hideous, except straight on from the front where you can't tell its a coupe. The wagon is where it's at for the cool factor. The recent wagon bubble has almost completely burst so they're coming back to reality on the prices, they still sell very quickly, however; so be ready to put down a deposit if the right one pops up if you decide to go that route. If you want an automatic, you'll have an easier time finding one.

I'm also a member of Rennlist, and on the (paying) members only forum, there's a 2014 6MT CTS-V wagon for sale in North Carolina. Grey. Asking $64k I think. I'd link it, but you wouldn't be able to see it if you're not a paying forum member - but Viper, do let me know if you want me to grab the pictures and contact info for you.
