Angry CPS SENSOR - WON'T COME OUT

Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem here. Couple weeks ago I couldn't start my car and after couple times it started and I got check engine light. Same night pulled a code of CPS sensor failing, purchased new part next day. Was planning on doing DIY as most of you did but didn't have time. So brought it to mechanic for quick replacement but he called me up and couldn't take it out, they sprayed PB and wd40 let it sit overnight. Next morning they tried again but it stuck in it. they don't wanna pull it hard because it can break, another option they suggested to try pull it one more time and if it will crack/break they will have to drop transmission to push it from inside.
Please let me know any other ways to take it out?! need my back on a road, please.

Thanks to EVERYONE

It takes some finesse, I've had issues with them being somewhat seized on the 272 engines as well as the 112... you just have to keep wiggling and pulling and eventually it will come out. Does the engine actually run? Maybe try warming up the engine and trying.. although I know its in a tight spot and it'll be hot... all I know is eventually it will come out.

yes it runs, it will start only when it's cold. I will try again tomorrow. Any other sprays I can you to lubricate it?

Warm up the engine and maybe it'll loosen

Drop the transmission? Sounds like it's time for a new mechanic. It's screwed in. There's nothing to put a socket on from the bottom and it's not going to "push" anywhere. I could have this all wrong, but either they're stupid or they view you as someone with deep pockets.

Marcus it is possible to remove the crankshaft position sensor with the transmission removed, it sticks inside the bell housing and can be pushed out from the inside. That is absolute worst case scenario.

Having replaced my cps a year ago, yes, after you take out the bolt, if you can't get it out, start twisting, and shear it off somewhere in the case thickness, yup I can definitely see you needing to take out the trans.

It sounded to me like the OP was saying the wrench can’t get the bolt out. If the bolt is out and the plastic CPS is stuck, that’s even easier – heat the bell housing. Rotate the CPS so the ear that holds it in place is away from the threaded hole. Thread in a longer stud and heat the stud. To me, pulling the transmission to remove a CPS is insanity.

eclectic assortment of cars
Concur with Marcus - pulling the trans to R&R the CPS is like killing a fly with a guided missile, or insert your other favourite overkill analogy.

I had a go at the CPS as well, never had any luck. If it's seized or the bolt is shredded in there my only hope is really to pull the engine out. (far easier!)

Lucky for me my CPS hasn't failed yet, I was going to do it as a preventative.

I'll let the MB factory deal with it when the time comes.

I sprayed some WD-40 and rotated the sensor left to right. I then used pliers to pull it out while rotating the CPS left to right.

hi, guys
Quick update on CPS sensor. We did everything mentioned above and it wont move at all.
Feels like it's welded in that housing and it starting to crack. Another option we thought to drill it out or drill the screw in to it. That sensor is insane for me. Or time to drop my tranny - it would be my 3rd time in past 2 month just a money waste on dropping tranny for simple sensor.
