How have people overcome their traction problems here?

Just got a 65mm pulley installed with a psk from needswings. Plugged in the tuned TCU and flashed the ECU. All I can say i OMFG ... this car is completely transformed!! I pulls so quick all the way up to 6200rpm without any signs of stopping ... like it just wants to keep climbing. Accelerating in this is now more fun than my modified subie I just sold ... loving it!!!

One small problem ... traction ... I cannot for the life of me get the rear to grip well enough to maximise acceleration. Any time I go WOT in 1st or 2nd I will loose traction ... that is a straight line in the dry. In the wet I can't even do more than 25% all the way to 3rd! I haven't even tried punching it through corners, would not dare.

I'm thinking of either

a) change tyres

I'm running 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 Sumitomo HTR zIII @ 34PSI/32PSI which seem to get glowing reviews everywhere Which is why I'm not sure tyres would solve my problem. PSS are not available in my size in AU and neither are Conti DW so would be PS3/CSC5/NittoInvo/P1 or PZero. Was thinking of maybe going RE11A in the rear just for traction.

b) Install an lsd and get both rear tyres going. I've heard this makes driving in the wet worse!

The Sumitomos are only 4 weeks old but are copping an absolute hammering, and seem quite harsh over small ruts. I also get a strange vibration through the floor in 3rd when accelerating moderate/hard between 2500-3000rpm, not sure if that's tyre related though.

So what would be the most effective way of actually getting that power to the ground? Never had to worry about this in my 300whp Subaru AWD lol

Congrats on the upgrades. I installed the 65mm pulley and flashed a tune a couple months ago and it changed the car completely. I have H&R coilovers installed with Michelin pilot super sports in the rear and the car hooks up great. I can still break it loose but it's not as easy as it was without the upgrades with the stock suspension. I dyno'd at 342 whp and 351 wtq a few weeks ago.

I'm running the eibach/bilstein b8 for my suspension.

I really want to go the supersports just to be sure there's no better street tyre I could put on there but I'd only be able to run 225/40/18 & 265/35/18 as they're the only sizes I can get locally. I'm not sure if that combination would trigger esp or screw with the handling, Most here seem to use 225/255 or 235/265 if it fits.

I could go the CSC5 or PZero/P1 or nitto or PS3 in 225/255 or
PZero or PS3 in 235/265. not sure if those options are really gonna help my traction though. Any one with any experience running those tyres on a modified c32?

LSD and better tires. You get what you pay for. Sumitomo is a low end brand. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport or PS2 would be great choices.

I'll start with better tyres and then LSD soon I think. I hear you about the tyres, I normally never go cheap on tyres but the sales guy sucked me in and then I read the tire rack reviews/tests and how well they ranked. Seriously those tests are full of $h!t and the user reviews can't be trusted.

Unfortunately I can't get the PSS in the right size here so I'd have to go a ps3. At this point I've decided on the Conti sc5... Michelin must be joking if they expect me to pay $1600 for the ps3.

Where are you guys getting LSDs from?

265-35-18 won't trigger ESP, might just rub a little. I ran them before.

I didn't realize you were in a different country. Have you thought about going up to the C63 sizes? That's what I ran on my C55. 235/40/18 in the front and 255/35/18 in the rear. Maybe they offer the Super Sport in that size?

I used a Quaife LSD. If I had to chose one modification on my car that was the best, I would have said the LSD was it. The Kleemann headers and custom exhaust would have been right behind it. I almost had second thoughts about selling my car even after I took the supercharger off. You won't be disappointed with an LSD.

Yeah I thought about going 235 ... But there's very little inner clearance even with 225s. It's the rear I'm having trouble with. I can get 265s but not 255s and I don't really like the idea of running 225 f and 265 r.

I think I'll just need to bite the bullet and look into an LSD. Straight after the behr and he go in.

Also trying to figure out a slight misfire I seem to be getting after doing plugs and pulley/tune. Not sure which one is causing it. Might flash the stock tune back tonight and find out if the misfire persists. Been a bit of a drain on the house deposit this thing.

235/265 will be great...not sure how much room C32 has but I've got 225s now and plenty of room to get 235.

As far as the misfire, double check the plug boots and make sure they all snapped back on fully. Could be just a simple fix like that. Start there before you try other options.

Ended up getting the csc5 in 225/255 which work out wider than the sumitomos. 265 would hace cleared the rear anyway but I'm glad I didn't go the 235 ... Barely a bees dick between the inner tyre and strut dimple. I'll try take a photo.

Also flashed the stock tune ... No improvement to the miss. Not throwing any cell ... Just a few stumbles when you come to a stop after a run before it settles down and a rough spot between 2500 and 3000rpm in all gears. The tune makes it most noticeable. Would have thought it was mounts but I just changed them 3 weeks ago with lemforder. Must be the new plugs or the wires.

Just a quick update, the csc5 are working out quite nicely, although noisier than I expected, they are really controllable when they let go, and braking in these tyres is amazing!

As for the miss, my indie ran a diag and found a slight miss in one of the cylinders (5 from memory). He changed both spark plug wires with a couple of used ones and it cleared it up. He suggested buying a new set which I'll do before Xmas.
