I´m planning to test manufacture my own in aluminium.
Should be quite simple.
Just a pressed sheetmetal that fits perfectly onto the std button.
Then sanding the button a bit to make a rough surface, to help glue stick properly.

With some work it could be good looking also.
When have got the correct design and all edges are smooth etc etc.
One can mediablast them get that 'almost std' surface/look.

Its been a while since I researched this but I believe the physical switches are identical (so should work perfectly) but the electronic signal is different (which is irrelevant).

I know that if we (W209) upgrade to C63 paddles + switches we need to get a signal modifying box, I am pretty sure C55 owners don't.

I´ve seen paddleshifters in SLK55 std.
And on a steeringwheel almost exactly like ours.

Yep i have driven one. I didn't have a good look at the back but the CLK wheel is different. It's the same as the W211 E63 one.

Yes.. after i posted i searched a bit more.
i have to take back my statement as it would be std in slk.
but as i read i was a simple job.

Anyway.. this weekend if i find time i´ll try to cut some sheetmetal and work a bit to see if it turns out well.

Accidental L8 apex

Speaking of steering wheels, anyone compared our wheel to a w204 wheel? I'd be really interested in a swap if I knew I could get our controls/buttons to somehow work with a 204's.

for your information the paddles i showed on here have taken a lot of hard work and testing just to get to the position i am in now and availability should be the end of september early october.i had to seek approval from mercedes benz and that was not easy as i had to provide a design copyright!!!!!!

DirtyTwo- did he use the plastic rocker switch only or the whole thing including the SLK electronic switch?

Nahh.. just do it.
Nothing to be afraid of.
It´s an old car, it will not hurt their sales, therefor they won´t give a ****.
It will actually boost popularity and gain them instead.

And this weekend when i was testing my own production that took me about 10minutes to finish i can say: it adds usage of option to shift by yourself.
One can reach the shifters more easily, BUT!
As i wrote i need to make new ones by two reasons.
First: You will get black fingers if in aluminium.
Second: They need to be moved about 10mm or an half inch inwards to centrum of steeringwheel, it´s a little bit more tricky to reach the other controls as indicator and cruisecontrol.

And by looking at Gorgonians product i can see the problem for my big fingers would still be there.

Swedepat what on earth do you do for a living? Are you a tool maker? Machinist? Fitter and turner perhaps?
The ones you made looked pretty easy to make. Would just need minor alterations, some engraving work and black ink and it would look good I think. Pity I don't care much for manual shifts anymore on my 55. I think in sports mode, my car actually shifts quicker than it does in manual. (NB I have done a tranny service and didn't find no dirt or debris and oil was still darkish red)
But they do look sexier indeed then the stupid button that feels a bit weird when depressed.

Yes, a little bit more work then they would look almost stock.
This was just to show you how easy it actually is.
I just took a aluminium 3mm sheet and worked a bit with my carpenter hacksaw, then polished them with 240 sandpaper.
I glued them on the stdbuttons with meltingglue in order to be able to loosen them easily.

My work?
I´m an 'toolmaker' and works as cnc operator at ABB Sweden.
I have been working with metal since i was ~12years old.
Now i´m 44.
I´ve been tuning small 50cc engines already at 12yrs.
Tuned my first 4stroke engine 14yrs old.

I got a LOT of experiance of dragracing.
I built my own 4x4 Opel/Vauxhall.
Ported a bunch of heads to different dragracingcars.
Latest is an Audi 2.2l 5cyl with 1002whp at only 42psi, with cracked manifold at dyno, now more hp, but dunno how much.
Next project is an evo 2 mitsubishi, we need about 1100whp.

I was always curious about this but could never find any info on it...can you please elaborate? I would think it would just be plug and play to just buy the SLK55 shifters.

swedepat those aluminum paddles look awesome! I kind of like the industrial look, a little smooth finshing around the edges and some engraving of the +/- and they'd be done!
