Anyone ever changed their coolant sensor?
I wish I had known mine was bad when I replaced the thermostat (could have saved some time). Anyhow, looks like I need to remove the belt and pulley just to get to it. My question, since a single clip holds it in-place, is there a real need to remove coolant (like when replacing the thermostat)? Looks like if the new part is ready to snap in-place, only a little coolant will leak out. My sensor looks cracked and the dash reading is off.

I removed coolant from the overflow and only a little came out. Now my problem is the connector was broken. I looks like the inside should separate. I tried to pull apart and it basically fell apart. Looking at this picture, does it look like the inside needs to separate? The old sensor was broken at the base and looks to be part of this picture.

Don't take this in a mean way but WTF did you do?? You need to move that secondary air injection pump a bit out of the way to get to the sensor. All that holds it in is that small clip so you use a flat head and lift the clip upwards (don't even have to pull it all the way out) and the sensor can be pulled out towards the front of the car. The coolant will FLY out since it's under pressure but what I did is just have the new one on hand and just really quickly pulled the old one out and the new one in. The hardest part was making sure the clip is seated back down securely on the sensor. MAKE SURE you do that. I didn't get it seated properly and it popped out when I was driving the coolant sprayed everywhere. Had to fix it and grab some distilled water from the grocery store across the street until I got home and added coolant back in the system.

The whole thing was broken. I was simply trying to remove the broken part (which was part of the sensor). Long story short, I found someone on eBay and picked up the clip with the wire. I then spliced, soldererd and all is well. I went ahead and replaced the worn pulley that sits in front of that area since I had to remove it to access the sensor. Since I did the replacement on a cold engine, and drained the overflow take, like you, only a few drips of coolant leaked out. Drove to and from work today (temps in the 90s) and no issues.
