UGH low oil light
Ugh,
I just got the low engine oil of 1 QT reading on the dash and immediately went and bought oil and upon checking the oil level I find out that we don't have a dipstick. UGH!!!!
So right after buying the oil the warning light went away. So as of now I have not put any oil in the car and am doing some research as to this. Do I wait for it to come back. Need to do some more research and figure out what to do. This really sucks not having a way to check the oil level.

I recently had the same light come on in my clk. You can purchase a dipstick online but i don't have the number for that off hand or you can check it electronically since it's an 05 model.
You should also look to see if you have any oil leaks coming from the valve covers and surrounding areas. Are you almost due for an oil change?

I am due for an oil change as I just bought the car. I don't have any oil leaks that I can see from the valve cover gaskets and they were done on the car about a year ago. I had a pre purchase inspection at Mercedes and they found a slight leak from the trans as I need to replace the pilot bushing but this is trans related.

The light is normal. Even without oil leaks the car still uses a little bit of oil. Apparently it's common with the high powered AMG engines (this is what an indy mechanic explained to me when I expressed my concerns a couple years ago). As long as it's not asking you for a quart like every week or two, you should be fine. If you have a little leakage from valve covers it's not the end of the world since it shouldn't be too much oil. For me, I normally have to add 2-3 quarts between oil changes but I also drive it very hard.

Make sure your car has been standing for atleast an hour before you do this.
1. put the key in ignition position 2
2. on your screen you should have the screen where it shows your your current mileage and the second line shows you the odometer reading.
3. now all you have to press is the "UP" or the "DOWN" Arrow on the left hand side of your steering wheel where it will now check the oil.
Hope this helps

There is some pretty bad advice in this thread. The LOW OIL light coming on is NOT normal.. (in any car, let alone a Mercedes???)
My engine does not use any engine oil in the 15K service interval. I put in 8, I take out 8. If you are burning oil something is wrong.
Put the key in the ignition and turn to position 1. Get to the screen that shows the kilometer reading, and press the cluster re-set button 3 times rapidly. (on the left side of the cluster).
It will now show you the battery voltage, use the buttons on the steering wheel and you can read out the ACTUAL oil level.. no just "ok, not ok" it will tell you an exact measurement all the way to the .1 of a liter. Your engine should hold 8.0 liters with a cold engine and all the oil in the sump. Any more, any less = bad.
Take it with a grain of salt, but I am a tech for Mercedes Benz. Now, it's not to say you don't have a faulty oil level sensor that is giving incorrect readings. I have changed out many of these sensors for that reason. The only way to be definitive on the amount of engine oil in the engine, is to purchase the dipstick. (it is a universal dipstick for every single model, it just has millimeter markings from 0 all the way up to 700. Your engine will have a specification...) (example: minimum 122mm of oil, maximum 139mm) You check with the stick and compare to see if the oil level sensor is working correctly.
BOTTOM LINE: Don't trust the dash.
