C32/C55 Brake rotors
I dont know if anybody noticed this before.... but has anybody here noticed that our front left/right rotors are exactly the same?
shouldnt the drill pattern spin the same way for both sides? i.e. chopping motion (drill patterns) on both sides as opposed to 1 side chopping and 1 side slicing?
does this make a difference at all? is this the reason my front left rim always seems to have more brake dust than my front right?

I first noticed it when I changed rotors at the track. Previously the dealer changed the rotors out. I was a subject of much discussion, since it would appear that one rotor would cool much better because of air flow, whereas the other would be fighting normal air flow (except when driving in reverse). I don't know what Porsche rotors are like, but will check it next time I see one with Brembo brakes.

I also brought this subject up. See:

It should be noted that the direction of the cross drilling does not matter much. However, the direction of the internal venting is an issue as it is directional. It is my suspicion that the braking system was originally designed to have right and left hand side rotors and at some point one part was eliminated for cost savings.

That's crazy. BMW produced directional wheels for the E34 M5 and that car is a fraction of the price. They used to have neat thermal videos where you could actually see the cooling differnce the wheels made.

Take a looks at the rotor on Porsches, Ferraris, they'll probably all have the same rotor fitted to both side.

Actually, as I said, take a look at the E34 (1989-95) M5. Both the turbine and "thowing star" wheels are directional. See http://www.bmwe34m5.com/faqs/?theme=...nt_id_select=3 Porsche also makes directional wheels. The "Turbo" wheels on the 996 and Boxster are differnt on the left and right side
In terms of directional rotors. Every BMW made with dierctional veins, has right and left side parts. Only BMW rotors with uniderctional veins share right and left hand parts.

Pity BMW can't switch the wiper positions for right hand drive cars. Even the E60 doesn't have RHD wipers on RHD cars. On my old 540i, I spent 4 years looking through rain drops. Cheap
