Cruise control problem

Hi guys,

My cruise control suddenly decided not to work, I was trying to look for a fuse for it, but didn't have any luck with that.

Any ideas?

1st troubleshooting question: Did you just change any of the tires on your car?

Yes.. One tire of mine blew out on the freeway a week ago, and the spare is on there right now, but the cruise control has worked since the spare has been on, so unless there is a delay factor, it doesn't seem to be the problem.

But then, i do not oppose to trying anything to get it to work..

for some reason or another it took my car a few days to register the fact that I had replaced the rear tires and not the fronts (ran over a bolt and decided to replace both). Even still, CC will initiate for a couple of seconds before it fails. I was skeptical, but the MB tech even said that the small difference between rolling diameter between new tires and old ones is enough to trip off the sensor. So I would start there first, and if that doesn't correct things then start looking at fuses. I can't speak specifically for the C43, but on other MB's (and most other cars) I have had, normally a faulty fuse will have an effect on other things too.....so unless you have had concurrent troubles with something else, I would be surprised if that was the problem. Hope that helps.....at least a place to start

CLK, R350
Its probably your tire, I had the same issue when i had a flat and had to drive home on my spare mounted with a directional snow tire.

I had a quick look at my fuse boxes, and there doesn't seem to be a particular fuse that directly controls the cruise control, perhaps i'll let it ride out for a few days and see what happens.

I'm a broke grad student with a 97 C280 and the cruise control doesn't work between 65 and 95 mph. All tires are used, so different brands and different tread patterns, but all are same correct size. So, I have to spend nearly half the value of the car on a new set of tires to fix this issue?
I did read elsewhere that the 3rd brake light bulb being bad might have been the issue and I did manage to fix the fixture with some soldering and a new bulb.
Also, if I manage to incrementally go up with the cruise cotrol stock from 65 to about 67 it will take untill the road gets a little bumpy and then it fails again. But no amount of bumps will disrupt the cruise control if I'm going -65 or 95+.

Have you checked the brake switch just behind the brake pedal? If I recall correctly (it was several years ago...) the BAS alarm light was on and I think the CC did not engage. It was a faulty brake switch which caused the problem. Changed it (not expensive) and all the problems disappeared.

On the other hand, if you say your 4 wheels have 4 different tyres and in different states of wear, that could also be the cause of the problem

PS Your post is on the C36/C43 AMG page. You could find more replies if you post on the generic W202 page: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w202-27/

Thank you @DRBC43AMG
Do you mean brake light switch? If so, it's a sub $15 dollar part so I'm happy to give it a shot but I don't have any of the symptoms listed here http://www.mercedesmedic.com/how-to-brake-light-stop-switch-benz/
PS: I'm sorry I didn't know there was a separate thread for AMG 202s. Thanks for letting me know.
