No. I kept the ribbon cable attached and just tightened the torx screws. Just tight enough so I wont' strip out the plastic mounts.

only thing you did was to tighten the screws back of the HU, does it really help to get the HU show perfect digits?

Yes. All I did was tighten. It's really a quick job. Just tightened the 6 or 7 torx screws and that was it. They all turned about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn and that made a huge difference.

If you're doubtful, just give it a shot. Worst case scenario is it stays the same.

The screws themselves are metal. But the base is the plastic display frame, so I would be careful when tightening. Did might tight, but not to the point where it would strip.

I'll keep you posted. The weather here is rainy now, so generally I think the temperature is a little up, but will keep an eye on it.

this might be a cheap solution to tighten the screws and not having to buy an expensive replacement unit.

i wish you good luck with your display it will work now.
i will try this next spring when i take my car out from her winter beauty sleep

all this time after you fixed the lcd, did the display work perfectly?
maybe your suspension is to stiff and bouncy giving your panel a hard time?

maybe this shop sells ribbons for lcd?

I would just call this company in the UK and see if they can send a replacement ribbon. Makes more sense to me to replace than just doing a temporary fix and having to take the unit apart several times to fix it.

Same issue with the fading numbers. I just ordered a climate unit off ebay for $50 shipped. Didn't see this thread though...

Is the quick fix working? Maybe some electric grease on the connections and locktite on those threads would hold it in better.

hey mickey
if you bought a used one off ebay you're likely screwed, this HU looks good and works while junkman strips the car in parts but the problem mostly occurs when you drive the car, then you will notice if it's good or bad from vibrations when you drive!
we will all eventually suffer from these inferior quality head units!
buying a new one for high price at stealership is the only way to go if you can't find a cheaper vendor?

Climate Control Unit came in the mail a couple of days ago, $50 shipped. Popped it in and works beautifully. Let's keep our fingers crossed. I guess I'll play with the old unit when I have some time.

OK so the new unit doesn't have an issue with the LCD, but the backlight is flashy. I'm going to pull it out and replace the bulb (think I read somewhere I can do that), but otherwise works fine. I can probably just use the bulb from the unit with the bad LCD/wire.

Check the connection to the bulb first. Could be the plug, but keep a spare bulb around.
