The piece does fall off and is difficult to find, or can get stolen

Umm..no, it's one whole piece with the bumper, so it won't fall off or get stolen. You have to actually hack pieces off to achieve this gag-inducing look. Again, won't mention names, but see page #35 on the stickied W202 AMG picture thread above and look for a white C43 (about halfway down the page) whose owner did the same thing.

Thepinoc speaks the truth. The small piece is just held on with a friction fit. You can easily pop it off. It's bespoke to the C43, so I'm sure it's not cheap to buy for its size.
I drilled a few very small, neat holes and secured mine with some stainless steel aircraft safety wire. There might be a photo in the owner's manual I think?

Those pieces are removable. Same thing on a C36 front bumper cover. However on C36, only sides come off.

No Mutilation...
That piece simply snaps in place - probably not a bad idea to fasten with safety wire. It's quite a cheesy set-up by MB

+1. it does have a plastic wire to hold it to the bumper if it happens to fall off (it will hang there from the said wire), but i have also zip-tied mine. since my car and the zip tie are black, it's barely visible.

and since your wire was just hanging there without you knowing where it was supposed to go, i have to say that you're a pretty patient man to not have just cut that wire off!

Make sure you don't cut the wire to the temperature sensor instead

Mine had fallen off before I bought the vehicle. My whole front cover needs to be replaced before I bother with replacing that strip. Oh well, such is life.

Well, those who have lost the strip (not me though
) , is there a way to "dress" that hole with some kind of mesh of something like that. It would be better looking than a big toothless grin IMO

It honestly isn't that noticeable on a black car unless you know it is supposed to be there. I didn't realize it was missing until I washed the car the first time and noticed that it looked like something was missing because the features down in the opening looked unfinished.
