Looks nice If I see right, you sandwich the brown gasket between two grey ones. Might consider this during the winter together with some heat insulation of the air box Does the kit come with the 6 gaskets?

Yes the kit comes with the gaskets and they are OEM gaskets as well. The brown piece is the phenolic spacer.

i really appreciate the mod + dyno service you are providing.. thanks for doing it this way it really adds some nice data to the mix. Hope those headers and spacers give a nice boost.

Like I said before I got tired of all the claims and wanted to put out the facts. This should aid future C43 modders as they will be able to determine if the cost is worth the gain.

I am not expecting much from the phenolic spacers but the headers, X pipe, high flow cats and ECU tune should really add some scoot

Now I have to have the short piece extended and then send them out to be coated before they are installed.

uh oh . . . . . you do know the road you're on has no u-turns, right? This particular mod is going to make a difference. A difference you should feel because the engine will actually breathe. It's not like the first time you go wide open on a zx10, sit in GOOD SEATS at a Laker game, or fly in a private jet, but still, it's a noticible difference and I doubt you're going back.

Your next PM could be "Yo, uh, ProjectC55, exactly whats needed for that 55 swap . . . . cause, you know, I need another real hit."

Click the image to open in full size.

Speaking of 55, Vince might be figuring out the problem isn't the 55 at some point today.

UPDATE:

Phenolic spacers have been installed, It feels like I lost some torque down low around 2000 RPM or lower but it feels like I picked some up above 3000 RPM as it really kicks around 3000RPM-3500RPM and it just keeps pulling to red line.

I am going to schedule a dyno run for the week after next. I will post the dyno results once I have them

Next up:
Kleemann headers, X pipe, 300 cell high flow Metal'Cats

looks like your c43 is being a guinea pig when you test certain performance parts on your car.
do you ask the seller about pro/cons when you buy all these part?
what does he tell you, do you gain any power and better performance?
it ain't fun getting ripped off wasting money on junk!

good luck bud.

Hmm, just wonder how lengthening the intake by a wee bit due to the spacers and gaskets makes the torque react like that

True but my butt dyno was correct with the pulley kit...

Another thing I forgot to mention was that my intake manifold was luke warm after driving for about 40 minutes doing several high speed pulls where before my manifold burned my hand after 30 minutes of normal driving.

UPDATE:

Headers are going in for modification tomorrow and then sent out to be swain coated. I will post pics after the modifications and after I receive them back from being coated. My exhaust guy said he could make a custom X pipe for me, I might go this route instead of the magnaflow X pipe.

Talking with my exhaust guy he expressed some concern regarding extending the O2 sensors. He said extending them may change the resistance and in turn throw a CEL, can anyone clarify this for me??

I'm guessing you are talking about the downstream O2 sensors? If they do throw a CEL, than just do the "spark plug anti-fouler" trick that I've posted before. It will fool the O2 sensors and they won't trip the CEL.

You should just eliminate the cats all together, especially when you are doing little mods like intake manifold spacers and such. If your trying to squeeze every last HP you can out of the C43 (aren't we all), then just eliminate the cats, definitely a few horses to be had there.

If your state does emissions testing, you will still pass because there won't be a CEL since you are fooling the O2 sensors. When they smog OBD-II cars, they just plug them into a computer and pull the CEL codes if any (which there won't be). They don't physically sniff the exhaust like they do with OBD-I cars.

EDIT: I misread your post, I didn't know he was going to be extending the wiring for the O2 sensor, I thought the concern was sensor placement in the exhaust stream.

The wiring on my downstream O2 sensor was all eroded away down to bare wires, so I had to cut the wires at the plug and at the sensor and soldered in new wire, I also had to extend it a little when I had my cats deleted and new O2 bungs welded in. I didn't have a problem. I doubt you will either as long as he isn't adding 5 feet of wire to the sensor Ha!

It's possible but unlikely. If it ends up being a problem have it be part of your tune to get rid of the code.

That is how I run no primaries with no codes.

UPDATE:

After talking with my exhaust guy we decided it would be best to modify the headers on the car so we can be sure that everything is done properly before we send them out to be swain coated.

I have scheduled to drop my car off on Tuesday of next week and pick it up on Wednesday. The headers should take about 2 weeks to get coated and come back and then another day installing them with the rest of the exhaust. I should have the exhaust completed by the first week of December.

Well we usually get 1 week of ridiculous snow during the winter, the rest of the time it is just REALLY cold but that's a good thing

No snow this year please, I would like to enjoy my C43 and it's new found power...

The headers should take about 2 weeks to get coated and come back and then another day installing them with the rest of the exhaust. I should have the exhaust completed by the first week of December.
Don't be surprised if it takes a bit longer. When I sent my headers to Swain it took over a month. Somehow I missed the May batch and had to wait for the June batch or whatever months it was.

As for extending the o2's I was having intermittent CEL's after extending them. I sent the ECU to Kleemann and Cory turned them off permanently. He was kind enough to do this for just the cost of shipping. I've since passed emissions testing with no issues.

Here is a cut out from a conversation I had with Cory:

Depends entirely on which ECU you have. If your car has ME2.8 (VERY unlikely, it would have to be a late 2001 production), I can do the coding for you no problem, but if it's ME2.0, the only way to keep the check engine light off is to have a TUNE file written which disables the readiness monitors for O2, O2 heater and catalyst. In many states, this means you won't pass emissions. You can also try to relocate the secondary O2 sensors behind the secondary cats- this sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't, and it's important to use a thick gauge wire (12 gauge) and to lengthen each wire one at a time, rather than cutting all of them at the same time, as this is a 4 wire sensor which has 2 white wires- the polarity of the white wires does matter. Wether or not doing this is successful is directly related to how well the wiring is done.
Your O2 sensor varies resistance based on the exhaust gasses and that is what is actually read by the ECU. All electrical wire has some level of resistance, so if you use too small of a wire gauge, it will add to the resistance (resistance is added in series) being shown by the O2 sensor and throw the reading off. If it throws it off enough, it will throw a check engine light. I can't see the downside of going with too large of a wire, but I may be missing something.
