If you have the Auto AC control, note and post here the first 10 Parameters before starting AC, after starting AC and some minutes later.

Most likely a leak in the system. A shop can perform a dye test to find out where it's at. You can throw a good amount of money at various parts to fix it, but pay the money to have it checked out first!!

Good luck.

I have the same problem haven't had time to figure it out. I think that is a good idea to have a shop check the Ac system for leaks.

Most AC systems need a recharge from time to time, generally every couple of years. With my 2 MB's, they both needed recharging after 3 years and they get used most of the year (full auto except in winter and even then sometimes on) to reduce humidity when it gets high.

If I remember correctly, my AC system wouldn't accept the R-134A without going through and resetting codes in the climate control system. Is this similar for the W202?

yeah it needs proper diagnosing. is the ec light on or off? is the compressor running? if so, is the low side line cold? if the line is cold but no cold air, then you check the flap system and it could be a vacuum supply problem etc etc etc.

needs diagnosing by someone who knows the car.

Ouch that is $800 labor. Part is $200 plus a few seals that I am sure only cost a few bucks. Find a reputable MB indie specialist, it would save you a lot in the long run for when this stuff happens. The price we will pay for cold air, I get it. Glad to hear it's fixed.

I'm sure there is alot more replaced. At least the receiver drier, new refrigerant and oil, possibly some lines with it, I doubt the mb compressor was only $200 also. Plus diagnosis, plus labor. If it was such a ripoff why did you agree to it?

To benzslo, I agreed to the service because, I appreciate my car and want to take care of it. I knew parts were going to be expensive. The part with diagnosis, relay switch plus refrigerant where 500.00 plus another 450.00 labor. Just like all Mercedes Benz owners, it's the price you pay for a slice of heaven.

I can appreciate that. $1k at the dealership for this type of fix is not that bad. At least you know it has been done right too.

just for information...
If there is a leaquage inside the A/C System, it is running out of refrigerant and the compressor does not start anymore. So this could not have been the problem here. If you follow advise of post #2, in most cases it is possible to detect the problem source.
