if I recall correctly, all w202's except the pre-update C220 came standard with premium bose sound system. I agree it can't compete with custom built systems costing many thousands of dollars, but so few people do it right. they just throw away the head unit and cut out all the original speakers and replace them with whatever they can afford that fits. all the speakers in my 98 were replaced with total crap pioneer speakers and a crap pioneer head unit. the sound in my stock 99 is way, way, WAY better. meaning a previous owner wasted hundreds of dollars to install all that crap and now I'll have to spend hundreds to return it to factory
if yes, ask him if he still has factory toys at home, maybe he can donate them to you?
buying these stuff from stealership won't come cheap even after 16 years car being out off manufactoring!
tweeters in dashbord are cheap, cost approx 35-40 dollars each at my steelership.
door speakers are no fun to buy!
these cost approx 245 dollars as i had to replace the speaker on drivers door.
a few years ago i asked how much a bose amp cost, partsguy told me amp was approx 1100 dollars, now they cost even more because price index rates going up.
that's sick pricing!

did you buy your 98 car from the original owner?

i'm thinking my best bet will be to carefully source some original parts from junkyard w202's, since nearly all w202's in the US came with the same bose speakers. the car has had 3 previous owners. the 2nd owner was a young guy who did all the changes to it. the car was originally in Michigan (several hundred miles away from here) but he joined the military and his army base was down here, so he moved. When he got sent to Afghanistan he put the car up for sale. That guy bought it but it had 2 big oil leaks so he took it to the dealership for an inspection and they wanted $8,000 to "fix it up" but they did the typical dealership list of stupid problems (like telling him he needs to spend $2500 to replace one xenon headlight because of a cracked lens). I got it dirt cheap. After I fix the AC compressor, paint the hood, fix headliner, replace o2 sensor, and replace airbag sensor it will be like new again!

looks like you got the 2nd car for a steal?
that's good
make sure you get the correct stuff for the MY of your car, 99 had D2B fibre optics stuff which MY 1998 didn't have.
ebay has some stuff too for bose components

I checked out the one in Fremont, It was pretty beat, and the dealership seems a little sleezy.

That's the worst part about these cars being at the bottom of their market currently. End up getting neglected and abused by people who have no idea.
Meanwhile mine is starting to garner attention from curious folks who don't even know cars but recognize something special about it.

I think all the amg cars got bose, though I'm not 100% sure on that.

I just checked some of the original sales info on the car. At least in 1998, bose was standard on c280 and c43, optional on c230. This is only for USA..
