Saving a C36

The calipers came in today-
345mm Rotor!
But it will be a little while before I get to test fitting them... I need to look for another car first. Not to replace the c36... but this happened yesterday-
They came and totaled it out today, but I'm satisfied. They're giving me about $1500 more than what I actually thought it was worth!

Man! thats a bummer, How did it happen? So, will a fresh paint job be in the C36's future?

I have to find a new car first and then I will see what I have left. I'd like to paint the C36, but the same day as the wreck, the AMG started hemorrhaging transmission fluid.....

Oh man.. When it rains it pours. Sorry for the loss of the BMW looked like a beautiful car. What are you looking at as far as replacements? Was anybody hurt?

My wife was driving. She's OK, just a little sore. The car took the hit really well. I would like to get something a little better on gas, so I'm looking at maybe an A4 with the 1.8t. Or a Jetta, or Passat. I just like the way the B6 Audi A4's look better. What's sucks is that the BMW is taking up space in the garage. They were supposed to pick it up today and no one showed/called, and the whole insurance company is off till Tuesday. If you call their system just tells you that its after hours and hangs up. Until I can get the BMW out, I can't get the c36 in there to see what's going on with the trans and why it started leaking so much all the sudden.

It's not always about being bigger. The MK4 Jetta actually has a better crash test rating than the BMW did, so theoretically, it should be safer. And a Land Rover Disco has a worse rating than the BMW, lol.

Top notch work on the Merc! Sorry about the E46, those X5 wheels were gorgeous on that car, was definitely worth the 13hr drive.
Good luck finding a replacement for the Bimmer, and im curious why the tranny is leaking.

Found a car. Ended up buying a cheap Jetta ecobox. I got $5k for the BMW plus I got to keep the wheels which are now for sale, and bought a 99 Jetta for my wife for $1600 already ordered all new shocks, assembled struts, control arms, tie rods and ball joints. The car runs great, very clean interior and has ice cold AC. I could have bought a better, or more fun car, but we just needed something good on gas for her to daily, and I feel much better pocketing most of what we got out of the BMW.
As for the c36, the leak turned out to be that the BRAND NEW pan gasket blew out the side, almost explosively, like I have never seen before.
New gasket in now, and she's back on the road. My friend just picked up a set of 18" AMG wheels off of an S55 for me today. They're 18x8.5 and 18x9.5, which is good because I did a test fit of the cl600 calipers, and it would be a very tight fit with the current 17" SLK AMGs...
It will be a little while before they go on though. The wheels need a little clean up, and new tires, plus I still need to sell the BMW wheels AND I have a set of w203 sport wheels that I need to sell too. I will probably order some Vogtlands to go in at the same time as the wheels and brakes.

Sweet deal on the Jetta. Lot of car for the money. I had a friend with the leather version of your car and I swear to you it smelled like crayola crayons on the inside. We even nicknamed it the crayon.
As far as the springs go.. Good choice on the vogtland. Just make sure your ok with it being low. I'm running the thickest pads and I still have to be very careful for road debris and parking curbs. The ride quality is still really good and with some fresh shocks it will literally feel like a totally different car.
Speaking of totally different car.. What's the story with the e12?

Trippy, which year? The same sized head lights on the front got me. Most the time the inside two are a touch smaller. What a sweet car, a 35 and a 5 speed.. Doesn't get much better than that.

No real update... But I did order wheel spacers and lug bolts for the new wheels (10mm front and 15mm rear) and I also have a set of Vogtland springs on the way!

Great work!! She looks amazing!! And yup, I also got the Vogtlands for my '96 C36 and you will be extremely pleased with the ride quality and the stance, the C36 IMO looks PERFECT lowered and gives it a nice aggressive race car type of look. The handling really increases aswell! Great job!

UPS brought me a box of fun!
And after 3 hours of frustration, sweat, grease, pain, and anything BUT fun, the springs were all in!
The comfort level on the ride quality has remained exactly the same, but the firmness, and handling is sooooooo much better. It corners so flat now. I love that the car is so much firmer, but still comfortable, it's perfect.

You see, that's EXACTLY the same feeling I got when I installed my Vogtlands!! They're AMAZING, I love em!! Just perfect, flat in the corners and still comfortable. She looks awesome!! That's how the C36 AMG should have came from the factory IMO.

have the vogtlands and koni's on my c43 and love 'em both to death!
spring pads thickness is a trial n error fitment.
i'm using #1 in front and #4 rear, it looks great, maybe #3 rear would make the car look even better?

I didn't do any trial and error or test fitting. I just used the pads that were in there with the plan of letting the springs settle and then decided later which pads to run, BUT I think the pads that are in there now are perfect!
