Any maintenance for AC system?

The AC on the car works great, is there any maintenance I should be doing to keep it working that way? Any info would be great.

You can clean or change the cabin filter, and clean the blower, important for air efficiency.

At this age, if it ain't broke, don't dare mess with it!! Zayed's recommendations are great, easy, low-cost items. But if you're considering replacing the condenser or other various parts people sometimes refer to as maintenance on your AC system, DON'T. Made this mistake on my 1994 C280. A car at this age with working AC is a rarity if it's never been serviced. If you were to pop the system open now you'd likely walk smack dab into a costly nightmare. I thought my system just needed a flush and recharge to make it crazy ice cold like it was new (when it was still cooling just fine) and the flush must have shaken something loose. Clogged up my evaporator and when I recharged it, it barely cooled. Dumping more freon in it fixed it, but I overcharged it. Evaporator, expansion valve, DASH REMOVAL, new condenser, new receiver drier later and I was back where I started. $$$$$$

At this age I recommend forcing it to run a little in the winter, when it goes largely unused the system can let things settle. About once a month during winter set it to LO and let the system run for 3-5 minutes and deal with the cold. Will help longevity in the cars twilight years.

I run both my w202's on 'Auto' even in winter. It does keep the air dry when it's humid, rainy, snowy, etc. The cabin filters do get changed every 2 years and a quick dismantle of the blower gets any twigs or leaves out of the unit.

Thanks sulaco, exactly the kind of mess I want to avoid. What a nightmare and expensive one at that.
