shouldn't it be the same transmission from any 97 C280 or E320?

I've got a 97 C36 with 136,000kms.
What happened with yours?
What was your mileage?

I am curious because I know the 5 speeds were less reliable than the 4's.

I was doing about 110mph an the tranny starting clicking an went into limp mode an stuck me in 4th an then I slowed down an it shot me to 1st an locked up the wheels to like 40mph an ever since it's been stuck in the limp mode an took to MB dealer an they said it's completely fried an my car has 216,000 miles on it.

If its not slipping then I'd bet its not dead. Bad conductor plate or tcu connector!

+1,

I guess you have 722.629, if so, you don't have to stick with C36 gearbox,

you can go with any 722.6 V8 98-99 gearbox from "C43/CLK430/CLK55/E430/E55"..

Nothing to do with TCU, you can put any gearbox(which i mentioned), and using your exist TCU..

E55 722.624 or C43 722.631, both are great for your C36..

Yeah correct,

722.604 is less torque which is: (A330Nm), need one like yours, to handle the Exist HP/tq which is: (A580Nm)..!
