I've just seen a short article on the C43 with some photos including the T model in the AMG Private Lounge for those who are members as it's the only way to have access...
It's in the Class Specific section under AMG Classics

For those who don't have access,, I've just copied and pasted the article below. Also I copied a reply from member Otfreid which gives some production numbers of the C43.

In the past DAI published production numbers for cars no longer in production. Actual, the CEO still announces rough Figures for specified Models.

For the W 202.033/M 113.944– produced between Oct 97 – May 00 an number of 3,085 cars has been announced, for the S 202.093/M 113.944 – produced between Sep 97 – Jul 00 the number have been 772 cars.

Further W 202.033/S 202.093 in even smaller numbers have been built with M 113.983 engines.

Dear AMG Private Lounge members,

In September 1997, the C 43 AMG celebrated its world premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt — as both a sedan and a T model station wagon. The successor to the successful C 36 AMG gained a newly developed 4.3-liter V8 engine with 225 kW (306 HP). It marked the first time that an eight-cylinder model was available in the C-Class.

The AMG engineers transferred the recently introduced three-valve technology as well as the dual ignition from the Mercedes-Benz large series. Both features reduced the pollutant emissions considerably. On the one hand, the reduction to one exhaust valve diminished the loss of heat in the exhaust flow, and on the other, it provided enough space for a second spark plug — an advantage for short combustion distance and optimal combustion control.

In addition, AMG took far-reaching measures to improve the cylinder charge and to achieve higher performance. For instance, the cams in the camshaft were forged individually and subsequently placed on the pipes — experts use the term “assembled“ camshafts. They waver less than conventional parts and moreover allow longer valve opening times for optimized gas exchange.

A new dual-chamber exhaust system and a larger air intake served the same end. Both helped to increase the amount of cylinder charge and consequently the performance yield of the eight-cylinder. Likewise, the exhaust system was completely redesigned. It made use of tubes with markedly larger cross-sections and modified muffler systems in order to keep the back pressure low. An electronic regulator controlled the work of the five-speed automatic transmission. It followed sporty shifting characteristic curves and adjusted the shift strategy to the respective style of driving.

The sports suspension that served as the basis for the C-Class was already lowered by about 25 millimeters compared to the standard design and equipped with firmer spring and damper settings. The AMG modifications mainly encompassed reinforced torsion bars and special gas shock absorbers. To keep the temperature strain of the brakes at the front axle in check even during strenuous driving, AMG mounted special brake pads with stainless steel pins between the discs and the brake hats, thereby thermally decoupling the components.

Best regards from Affalterbach,
Your AMG Private Lounge Team
