Should I??? Would You???
I have the opportunity to purchase an '00 AMG E55 for a mere 4K CAD. The car is in excellent mechanical/running condition and has a clean title. It has 190K kms and is 100% complete. The body and paint show its age but I'm more interested in the motor. I'm pretty certain that I'm going to purchase it but wanted some input and advice. Thx

I imagine if it was supercharged it would have ran away from that E46.
Now you got me wanting a w211 E55...

Exactly Zayed. I'm more interested in the motor. The rest I would salvage off for parts and I should be able to break even. The engine has 5K kms more than my C43 engine. My plan would be to rebuild the 5.4, add headers and drop it in my C43. Yay or Nay? Thx

Put the 43 motor back in the E55 & make a nice beater out of it; or sell it as a running car to make your money back. Just don't list it as if it has the 55 motor still in it

I fully appreciate the 55 swap into a C43 for obvious reasons, but I hate to see a w210 E55 get ripped apart and scavenged like that. There's a thread here somewhere where a guy did this. He swapped the motors around on both cars because there's no sense trashing a hand-built E55 just because you stole the engine. The 4.3 engine is still a perfectly acceptable engine to put into the E55. He even swapped badges around so his C55 was his "holy crap, monster machine" car and the E43 was his cruisin' date-night driver. I would absolutely do this!

Well, it just so happens that the owner was not available to show me the car this weekend. As luck would have it, an '01 E55 motor with 64K miles recently listed on eBay for $1995.00. The motor is 100% complete with everything including wiring harness, air box, alternator, water pump, etc. I'm located in Surrey, B.C. and the motor is located in Blaine, WA which is just across the border a mere 15 minutes away. The seller accepted my offer of $1650.00 USD which comes to approx. 2K CAD. I'm picking it up next weekend and will immediately start working on it. I intend on replacing all seals, gaskets, starter and possibly the MAF before I drop it in. Is there anything else that I should look at replacing? I should have it completed within a couple of weeks. I feel like I just purchased a brand new car!
