hesitation in acceleration when gas punched , when pedal to the metal
While driving, I press the gas down to get going but there is a little hesitation before it really gets going. Any answer to that?
Pedal to the metal while driving, the engine almost dies and I let the pedal go thinking hmmm. Then I push the gas pedal again, the car accelerates very slow. I would have to restart the car to get back to normal.

welcome brother.
did you check your fault codes?
there could be numerous of faults, how long did you have your car?
do you know your car maintanence history?
possible prob with MAF?
possible lag from throttle actuator?
how is your ignition with sparkplugs and wires, when were they replaced?
airfilters are they dirty?
do you have any fuel leaks?
my car had a bit of hesitation on take off, there was no full pressure in fuel lines.
short L-shaped rubber fuel line which is connected to fuel pump disintigrades from age and leaks gas.
best thing is to check fault codes

throttle position sensor. I had this exact same issue.
Don't spend $500 on a new one. Buy a used one on ebay. The throttle position sensor from any MB from that era will work. I bought one for a 1999 E320 for $50 and it fixed mine.

Autohausaz doesn't carry it, but partsgeek does (and they are usually cheaper than autohaus) http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/199...on_sensor.html $540
Either way, I'm glad we seem to have sorted his problem!
edit: looks like pelicanparts has it much cheaper! $125.25

Im having a similar issue.
When I give it enough gas to downshift the car hangs for a second or two before it launches. Doesnt happen all the time.
Would this be related or is it a transmission adaptation issue?

could you elaborate more on the problem? does it only happen once you hit the kickdown switch? does the problem cause permanent lack of throttle response until you restart the car?

No I dont remember the last time I used the kickdown switch.
Car drives fine theres power but when i give it extra gas it needs to downshift in order to pick up speed(normal obviously). The downshift takes a second or two. Basically if i raced someone from a roll id lose

Mine was intermittently sluggish when my MAF sensor failed before it kicked a code. I haven't had a TPS issue but sounds like that could also be a potential cause. Sucks trying diagnose these things prior to it generating a code.

blue top solenoids with updated valve body may solving this, not so sure,
bad viscosity oil in valve body could cause bad shifting and lock-up delay,,
it happened with me many times, but when i put SL600 valve body & converter, delayed happening but sooooo few..!!
ZAYED,,

Got it
Thank you all for your help.
It was the throttle position sensor located under the hood.
Just got the used one and it worked fine.
Very easy replacement process.

Is this on your red or black one? Asking bc i know the red one sat for awhile and i had the same acceleration issue with my car when i got it (was sitting for 3 years). Turned out to be a bad seal on the mass air flow meter. Super quick and easy fix, and acceleration had no delay after.
