Anyone Recognize This Part

I had to remove my driver side door latch actuator.
In the process I was pulling the whole unit down and this spring looking thing snaps of and falls down to the bottom. Now I have no clue where it clips on to and if I really need it?

Everything seem to work fine with that part out, including rolling the window up and down. Anyone have a clue or a guess?

Thanks but I don't think that's it.i think I saw it attached to the white housing the holds the lock assembly, I just don't know exactly where. I'm hoping I don't have to take the panel off my passenger side so I hope someone will know for sure.....

Just finished installing the new lock and the handle is super soft when opening. So you may have been right after all. Now just have to figure out where and how it hooks up.

Here you go:

It's the spring for the outer door handle.

That's so weird I don't ever remember seeing a spring on the door handle. I had removed the handle, it did not have the spring. After i removed it I started to take out the lock, that's when I heard the spring pop out as the window went down. But thank you! I will take a look at the handle tomorrow to see if the spring fits in there.

I don't think that is the same spring as that one flares out at the corners. I believe the spring that you're trying to find the location for is in the door. The exterior handle slides in behind that spring to release the door. When installing the exterior handle, the spring must be pulled towards the outer door and the exterior handle has to slide in behind it. If it is not held forward by the exterior handle, you will hear a loud snap when the window is rolled either up or down. That sound is the spring catching the window and then rubbing against it. How it came out is puzzling but if it came out, there must be a way to reattach it. Good luck!

Ok, thanks. And you're right about the window rubbing against it. Before it snapped out of place the window was rubbing against it. And than i believe it was the window that made it snap when it came down. Wish there was a diagram for this.

While we're on the subject of door hardware, does anyone know the part# for the gold Allen head screws that hold the handles in place? They are the ones that are located in the door behind the weather stripping. Thx

Hi Zayed,

I thought that was it but it is not. There are two in each of the front doors and one in each of the rear doors. They are located in the tiny holes behind the door weather stripping. They are a light gold in colour and visible if you shine a light in. Thx

Hi Zayed. No, those are not it. They have a bolt like shape with a #4 Allen head recessed in it. It is a set screw that doesn't fall out, although one of mine did as it was stripped. They are an anodized gold in colour. Thx

Thanks for all the help everyone! It is shaped more like #84 in the diagram but that doesn't appear to be the correct location. There is two in each of the front doors and one in each of the rear doors. It is definitely not the one in Zayed's last post.

I pressed the wrong number, the one that is removed to take out the door handle is #84, I put 86, sorry. But to remove the front door handle there's only one screw. Like you said behind the rubber. Where's the second? How about taking a picture of what you want, won't take much time to upload...

Here's a pic. The other one is located a little higher up on the front doors only. They screw in towards the outer door. Thx

Do NOT overly turn that screw. I made the mistake of doing it thinking it was the screw to remove the door handle. I broke it, felt like it stripped, but it broke. That is why I had to replace the whole lock because my door handle would no longer open the door.

That screw is used to bring forward the metal piece that opens the door. When you go install the handle you turn that screw to the left so the metal piece reaches the handle. At least that is what I used it for. There is only ONE screw that needs to be turned to remove the door handles both front and back doors, one screw only.

I also made that mistake a while back. It was semi stripped but when I had to recently loosen it, it fell out completely and it is now gone. That is why I'm looking for the exact screw.

I think I till have the old lock in my garbage can. But I really don't think you can just replace that screw. It's not setup like your thinking, it will not just screw in, or maybe you can I'm not sure. But when I looked at it briefly I believe the end of the screw wrapped like a rivet to the metal housing.

I will check tomorrow if the part is still in the garbage can. Btw, a used lock assembly costed me $50.00, shipping included. If you have to do it I can do a quick how to if you like.

I really appreciate that, Speed. If you have the screw it'd be worth a shot. I do understand exactly what you're saying about the screw as I'm pretty certain it won't fit through the access hole in the door. It fell out into the door and it must have fallen through a hole in the bottom of the door on my way home as it wasn't there when I looked for it. I'll price out a lock assembly locally. Thx
