Early MY camshafts - Problems?
Pagz mentioned in his 55 thread on Club202 forum that early versions of MY1998 E55 camshafts are not to be used according to EPC.
What is an early MY for camshafts?
These cars came out in 08/1997 as MY1998 sold to MY2002.
C43AMG MY1999 had facelift interiors and probably upgraded trannies, didn't camshafts get upgraded?
Is a MY (manufacture date MAY) 05-2000 for E55AMG considered as an early MY fitted with weak camshafts?
This problem did it only affect M113980 E55 engines or did it also affect M113944 C43 engines?
What was the problem for these problematic camshafts?

If I'm not mistaken, the cams on both the 43 and 55 are AMG specials. I have never heard or read about problems with them. My engine is approaching 300k kms and still purrs like a big cat so high mileage doesn't seem to be a problem.

i read about it when pagz mention this in his build thread on club202 forum.
he has read the information from MB not to use old stock cams.
i was was wondering why MB warn about this?

i guess there is nothing to worry about M113 engines?
only thing that kills our engines is neglecting service and not doing oilchanges

Epc won't warn you to not use a certain part. There may be footnotes on some parts to use additional parts etc. Epc would never say this, if there was such a warning it would be in a service bulletin or recall. I've worked on these since they've been out, have never seen or heard of a single camshaft failure.

The footnote was "do not use old stock" or words to that effect.
I will screen shot it from EPC.
The cams they talk about are in the 5.4 and 4.3.
For the 5.4 these cam numbers are 38 and 39 if I recall, Eventually I found these stamped on mine they are very hard to find when the cam is installed/dirty.

Yeah, everything is good about M113, except "leaky valve covers/oil pans/head valve lifters..!
