New Owner - opinions on upgrade parts please
Hi All
I'm the pround new owner of a C36 AMG
After driving my uncles 5spd C36 recently I decided these were a pretty damn cool car.
So I purchased a 96' 4spd, all original with Mercedes service history and 150 000 km's
To the point now
The AMG boys did some serious work here and stock standard they - Go Stop and Handle like a Performance sedan should!
So Want to keep it original
Eventually I will be taking it on the track for the occasional squirt.
So I am thinking about upgrading:
Brake pads
Shocks
Air filter
and DIFF, G/BOX and ENGINE oils.
From a performance only perspective what are the best performing products to use in these areas.
car is only a weekend car so ride quality and longevity of rotors/shocks etc is not a worry either is $$
All opinions welcomed

i track my car a few times a summer and autocross a few times a month, you have a pretty good plan there with the parts you are considering:
brake pads: if you really want to go hard at the track you need to use a race pad to not have to worry about brake fade. i used the HAwk HPS pads for a year and it was great for autocross but after a couple sessions at the track they would overheat quite easily. for the track IMO you need a pad that can handle over 1000*F, and only race pads can do that. i went with a 'ebtry level' race pad, porterfield rs4 and im really happy with them. they only squeal a little bit when they are cold but after 5-10 stops they dont squeal anymore so im really happy with thier street-ability. they will cause faster wear on thr rotors, but i only put about 4000 miles a year on the car so im fine with it. also keep the stock 2 peice rotors, they are great and the 2 peice is what you want at the track as well. sorry for the long description here but this was one of the topics i did the most research on...
shocks: i went with the bilstein super sports, they are in improvement over stock and lower the car a bit, im happy with them, the ride isnt too harsh on normal roads. i considered the koni adjustables, but to be honest i just didnt want that to be one more thing that i had to mess with. also the KW coilovers are an option, kind of pricey but im still not sure if i wanted to change to the all in one setup vs the separate shock/spring setup that the car was engineered to have. (springs, i went with the euro spec springs)
Air filter - i went with K&N, lots of people complain about the oil but ive had mine for 2 years now and no issues, ive also has K&N on 3 other cars with no issues so i dont know where the phantom "oil in the MAF" complaints come from.
diff gearbox and engine oils: i just use stock, i think ive only changed the oil, not the others to this point, i will change when the manufacturer recommends but 3 years of this now and car is still going great.
just keep in mind (as you seem to be doing already) that the track is completely different than street, i found that it was hard to find people with multiple track day experience with these cars, i think there was only 2-4 members on here that actively track their cars. lots more feedback is here when it comes to street performance.
also just make sure you bleed your brake likes a few times a year and replace the fluid between every 3-4 track days and you should be fine there. some will say to change it after every track day but thats a bit of overkill IMO.

the other thing, that so many people recharge oil to the filter, then immediately put it in the can, some of oil will sneaks to the MAF film, and damage it, especially when the car is hot..>!!<

I avoided the oiled filters & went with AFE Pro Dry filters + removed all the baffles & mesh inside. No issues with mine Also using Bilstein Sport shocks and can attest that they handle nicely & are not too uncomfortable on the street. My Konis were a bit more rough.

Thanks guys!
Yeah I'm going steer clear of oiled filters at this stage!
If there's a good replacement its makes sense!
Has anyone had experience with green filters?
Shocks: just want to clarify which bilsteins will fit!?
Im %99 sure I'm going bilstein shocks.
With standard springs what bilstein shocks are suitable and have the best track capability!?
Product code ?
Prices?
Thanks again for any input really appreciate everyone's insight!!

Yeah looked at that one too! But it says;
Note: does NOT fit AMG models.
But I have found this alternative:
http://www.thepipercrossshop.co.uk/i...ch=Part+Number
Reasonably priced and looks quality!!

A lot of the C43 crowd in the UK and other high performance vehicle owners swear by BMC filters:

I have "greens" on mine and have never had a problem despite the need for oiling. The trick is to spray very little on the filter element and let it sit a couple of hours before putting back in the air filter box.
