how do I know if I have timing chain issues?

The car rattles/knocks at start up in the morning and goes away after maybe a minute.

The noise doesnt really sound like clicking(lifters) or exhaust leak, Its more like something wiggling and slapping metal.

Before I take it somewhere and pay money, is there anything else I can do to check it my self? Are there any other symptoms normally?

u can check the timing very easy your self.
buy these alignment tools.
and put them in place and see how much your timing is off.

this is my car with NO BELT on it, so none of the accessories are turning.

if it is making this sound, you need a timing chain and/or timing guides $$$$$
