Replaced Windshield

Anyone replaced a windshield on their 202? Any recommendations in the Bay Area?

I went to the dealer on Saturday and they quoted me $310 for the glass, $70 for the install kit, and 4 hours at $180 per hour for install!! Um, no thanks.

Yeah, 4 hours is hilariously high. I've had mine done on my old C280 and it took the guy 45 minutes, tops. It was Pilkington glass, too. I think total was like $225.

Yeah, it was a bit insulting. I waited almost 30 minutes standing there for the quote and it struck me as a 'we don't really want your business' kind of quote. Kind of like that if you have to ask, you can't afford it treatment.

I've noticed dealerships just don't want our business. The car is so old that most people won't foot the bill because the car "isn't worth it". I had a similar experience with a parts rep. He became very friendly after we walked out to my car and he realized I was serious about using OEM parts to refresh my car.

You should have seen the nightmare I went through to fix my 99 C43 after my wife totalled it. 10 years ago it wouldn't have even come close to being a write off from such minimal damage.

Both insurance companies, the adjuster, the shop, everyone involved was seriously pissed off they were having to spend so much time dealing with "some junky old Mercedes."

No one could understand why I was so serious about fixing it instead of just walking away with a check.
