BlownS4, I sent you an email and haven't heard from you. I know most of you guys dont want or cant send both of your boxes for the mod but for now that needs to be done. The only cars that I can have to send are the c43 air box and now the clk500,sl500 and the amg versions.

Yesterday I had a guy from the clk500 forums come test the air box for that model that I modded and he really liked it. I also drove the car wiith my air box and that car accelerated so nice. Both of us were really happy with the results. So Im going to focus much more tumd on those cars. Im still doing the C43 air boxes for now but eventually I will not. I see why renntech no longer offers their air box for the C43, little demand for sure.

Hey all,

Yesterday, speed43 mentioned he had a CLK500 out to help test the air box. That was me and just wanted to stop in and mention my thoughts on the airbox.

First off, the car is mostly stock. It has a brabus cat-back and the secondary cats were removed after they failed, and replaced with test pipes. Other than that, engine is stock. I've owned the car for nearly 4 years and have about 65k miles on it, so the butt dyno has been calibrated over and over

Fitment: Note, this box was not done yet, and I will be stopping by for more fitment testing. While testing the height, we found that the air box can be raised probably another 1/2. So I will have more details after we test it again. That being said, the fitment was great! It was literally a 10 minute swap, and 5 minutes of that we spent cleaning out my dirty *** air filters!! Haha. The hood closed with plenty of room to spare. We threw it in drive and revved it up a bit to see how much the engine moves under load, and there was still plenty of clearance. Note: I put in new motor and transmission mounts less than 3 weeks ago.

Power: As mentioned, the butt dyno did notice extra power. And it was pretty broad over the entire rpm range. Midrange was better and top end didnt die off as much. I know I can't offer numbers, but lets just say after swapping back to the stock air box, my ride home was less enjoyable. Its makes a noticeable difference. And I didn't notice that the low end torque suffered at all.

Sound: As mentioned, I have a cat-back and test pipes for the secondary cats. So the exhaust already sounds pretty great. This airbox added the air induction noise. For years, I have been removing the resonator boxes on Hondas and Nissans just for that wonderful intake sound. By removing all the baffles on the inside, it gives the V8 a wonderful sound.

Comments: After driving this car for 4 years, I am starting to get a little to use to it, making it a bit "boring" some days. After putting on this intake, I found that not only did I want to explore the extra power, but I really liked the better sound!! At idle and below ~25-30% throttle, I didnt hear much different. But once you cracked open that throttle, it really starts to sing.

speed43 was also really cool in person. I got the impression that he really wants to provide something for our community. Considering how insanely small our aftermarket is, I applaud his efforts to create a reasonably priced alternative. Im excited to retest his box soon, and you might even find me rocking one below my hood soon

I had to cancel on him Friday, my fault!

I'll be doing another test fit tomorrow, hopefully I can chime in with a few details too.

I know this air box is not for the c43 but a few people have seen this thread that have this box on their cars so wanted to follow up with some pictures of it being finished. The air box thats all scratched up is the original box i bought from ebay and modded. As you can see my box is bigger and inside has been gutted all out. And i also added a half tube on the inside of both sides to guide the air to the MAF. I dont have pictures of that but its pretty nice and im hoping it will add some nice air flow..

Thank you very much Zayed. The style of this clk box is really nice. I made one for myself. Accept since our c43s have tons more room to raise the top I did so. My box is a monster and performs really well. Accept the u clamps on the box don't line up with the mounts on the engine. But it holds on well without them attached.

If anyone here tells someone with a clk500 (or any other car that the box will fit) that I make these for their car. And if they purchase one, I will knock off 50.00 for the C43 air box.

And if any of you have any ideas that you care to share as to how I can sell more of the c43 boxes let me know please. Just don't say lower the price because $480.00 is the lowest I can go. Unless I advertise a special deal or pm you with an offer which I do tend to do. Like right now I have a box I'm willing to sell lower than the 480.00. Email me an offer and let's make a deal. This is just one box that I have right now. Thanks.

This Airbox is a bargain and a must

I ordered this Airbox for my C43 with the 55 swap and let me tell you the engine breathes much better. There is instant power on tap compared to the stock Airbox. You can instantly notice the difference throughout the RPM band. Especially on the highway you don't even need to downshift. With this Airbox it just goes like a freight train. This product is a must. And I just ordered his new intake elbow hose can't wait to see what it will do with conjunction with his Airbox. If there is that much difference with the stock 4.3 I can only imagine how it will be with the 5.5. I will update everyone once I get the elbow. Jorge is a great guy to work with. He is very helpful and takes care of his customers. You guys should believe in his mods and just see for yourself.

I thought you said you tested it with a 5.4 swapped c43? Why are you saying that you cant wait to see what dofference it will make with a 5.4 swap?

Oh and a 5.4 swapped c43 doesnt need a downshift on the freeway anyway it just pulls hard

I do have the custom Airbox on the 5.4 swap and it makes a huge difference with it. I also ordered the custom elbow he makes now. So I can't wait to see what a difference it will make with that in conjunction to the custom
Airbox on the 5.4.

He did tested it because he was one of my first customers but had an issue with the back of the air box touching the fire wall. So he emailed me and i will be sending him a replacement with the elbow mod.

And yes the 5.4 swapp c43 may not need to downshift on the freeway or anywhere else, but his setup will pull harder if he chooses to.

I cant justify spending a dime on a car right now other than maintenance

Shell have to wait man.

I wont mind spending the full price when Im ready. Itll be well worth it. I have so much ofher stuff to deal with now. The car is on the back burner.

Its been on a spare tire for weeks. I dont even have time to get that replaced.

Good thing we have another car and we commute to work together

Thanks for the headsup, but I have two already to modify.
I don't want to have to many of these c43 boxes.
I'm going to focus more on the clk500..etc air boxes.
I don't know why c43 guys like their stock air box, so restrictive.
Maybe lack of funds or their just happy with the current performance.

If the same happens with the CLK and SL cars I'm going to have to expand to Hondas and the like.
