99 C43 Headliner Replacement

Weird, I recall mine being tight but never had to bend it. I removed the front seats.
WIS says remove through front right door, not sure why side matters maybe steering wheel gets in way?.. the picture shows it on an angle at widest part of door.
Doesn't say anything about removing seats but removing the fronts at least makes is much easier and less likely to be damaged.

Have you had any luck finding a shop to replace the headliner? Mine has officially fallen down at the rear edge. Hate to admit a grade school report clip is what is now holding things up. Thanks.

I pulled mine out, don't remember having to bend it much, if at all. You pull the rear seat lower cushion out (release on each side at the front, bottom edge of the cushion, hooks in the back) and that lets you recline the front seats almost flat. From there, you can work it out of the passenger side door.
I'd pay $400 if they were going to replicate the factory finish (light gray center, black trim on either side), but I wouldn't pay that much for a single material replacement unless it was legit alcantara or something comparable.

Thanks for the information. I guess for $400 I'll wait and see how long I can stand the droop. This is on my C280 not my C36 so the car's value, or lack of, is a major consideration.

You could get some 3M Super 77 Spray adhesive from Lowes or Home Depot and spray it up there and push it back on. The problem is if the foam backing is disintegrating, that won't last long.

FYI, I replaced my headliner with original MB parts from dealer.
A 202 690 19 50 color code 9B29 - Interior headliner
A 202 780 02 40 color code 7D04 - Interior sliding panel under sunroof
1999 Model: C43 Black/Black
VIN: WDBHA33G5XF88xxxx
Chassis: 2020331F88xxxx
Both the headliner & sunroof panel were a little over $300 each. Install was $200 by local shop. Removed & replaced through door opening.

I'm curious to know how long ago too. I was quoted $975 for OEM headliner and sunshade from the dealer. I ended up having a local guy do mine in alcantara or suede (I don't remember, really didn't care which material so long as it would last 5-10yrs) a couple weeks ago. He also dyed most of the plastics and visors a slightly darker grey so it would match the material.

soo i was at the shop today and have a price for $700 to do the headliner, visors, sunshade, and all the pillars (front middle and rear)
what do you think? its not legit alcantara or even toray micro suede which makes me sad....
i might try to score the material myself and see if the shop that wanted to charge me 300 will do it. i'm thinking black headliner and perforated black b-pillars

i had the shop that was going to do it for $300 in the summer. i went back and the guy upped the price on me because i dont want to use his material. so he was charging me 300 with his material, now im bringing my own material and the price is higher??
whatever.
im going to do it myself this summer coming up.

I took the headliner out of my 95 C36 the other day. A local shop in town quoted me 200-250 to recover the headliner and sunroof shade in fake suede. This was me dropping off the two pieces and me doing the reinstall.

it was for headliner and sunroof panel only. Asbury Auto Top Shop, 807 Asbury Ave, Asbury Park, NJ. 732-775-8470
Probably a hike from Long Island.
My gf lives in LI, I'm headed out to see her today. She lives around Great Neck, nice 90 minute ride for me each way LOL

Asbury Park! Jeez! Guess I will shop around Brooklyn and perhaps central or northern NJ

Asbury Park is central NJ LOL. I consider down to like maybe Great Adventure in Jackson central and then anything past that as south.
AC and Cape May really being south. I consider Long Island Beach Island as south and Seaside Heights as just on the border of central/south.
My last gf lived in Seaside Heights and that was a 45 minute drive for me. Asbury is east of here and maybe a 20 minute ride.

Very small shop. They were roughly half the price of the other shop I went to in town. I may be using the headliner from a C43 that I will be parting out instead of recovering this one.
If you make it to town, let me know. I would love to check out a swapped C43.
