can a bad coil....
#2
I've had two bad coils but the engine shaked very little. It did shake a whole lot more when releasing the brake a little when at a stop sign. But never did it shake violently.
Maybe you have a big air leak somewhere.
Have you checked for that?
Have you pulled each wire to the coil to see if the engine shakes?
If the coil is good the engine should shake and get back to normal once you plug the wire back. If the engine stays the same you may have a bad coil. But again, I never had a violent shake when a coil went bad.
Hope you find the problem and let us know when you do.

Before I start ripping out wires and coil packs I wanted to see if it could be caused by that.
This is on my c280(m112)
I had bad engine mounts on my c43 before and it never shook like this. I believe its gotta be something else.
Can I unplug wires as the car is running? One at a time of course....
Alse where would I start with testing for an air leak?

Have you checked to see if there are any codes stocked in the ECU?? That's probably my first check before going anywhere further.

yes it can but a bad coil will certainly trigger codes as DRBC43AMG has said. My friend bought a basket case C43 and it also had 2 bad coils. It was an easy diagnosis and fix. It also had a bad injector but that's a story for another time...

The check engine light is not on. Last time I check I had a code for some sort of intake valve/tube.
I was able to pull out the small metal tube that goes into the intake manifold and clean it. Also a tiny rubber hose on the intake man. was pretty bad shape and I changed that. Mahbe more of those are bad back there. Irs kinda hard to get to. There are a few rubber tubes on the back of the manifold.
I bought this car with a bad motor and I had the motor swapped.
I remember my friend mentioning that one of the coils had bad connection or something along the lines while he was doing the swap. He was able to temp. fix it at the time so I didnt really bother with it

well the bottom line is if there's a misfire then you WILL get a CEL identifying which cylinder(s). I really can't imagine it would be causing such violent shaking from a misfire and not trigger a code

When my car was shaking from bad coils I did NOT get a check engine light either.
After replacing the 2 bad coils the car was smooth.
And yes you could unplug wires while car is on but be careful and use gloves or something so u don't get shocked. And when the car is cold in the morning, buy some carburetor cleaner or the like and spray around the air hoses, manifold etc.. While the car is on. If you have an air leak the rpm will go up or sometimes down, either way the rpm will change. Stop spraying as soon as the engine has warmed up, I'm sure you no why.
