I have to agree with Zayed, the only differences come from the ECU mapping. Also perhaps the exhaust is less twisty and better flowing in the S than the C giving some extra horses.

It would be good to know if the exhaust is a full twin pipe to the back, or just the classic muffler with twin outlets?

they are all the same 55 engines M11398xx, but S-class was tweaked to get a few more ponies over the other cheaper models

Yeah, people like to go with "W220 S55", cause they have an idea that, always "W220" is big car with less using mileage,,

if you see in EPC, will notice all "M113 5.4l" sharing the same internal parts, no any difference..

From what ive heard, its only due to exhaust and ECU mapping. With a tune, all 5.4s in c43s should be making close to the same amount of power.

I'm more interested in how to open up the exhaust in the C to get it breathing properly.

what was the power figure on the few original C55s?

An engine that sat that long and that needs to be broken into might end up being a more of a headache than a used 100k engine.

Just dont overlook anything and make sure you break her in properly

Thx for the advice PJ! I'm definitely not going to overlook anything. I'm having a friend that I grew up with take a look at it. He's a shop foreman for a local Chrysler dealer and has been rebuilding hemi's, wedges, crossram's and torqueflite tranny's since the age of 15. Besides myself, he's the only other person that I trust.

Picked up the motor in Blaine, WA last Sunday. Brought the motor into CANADA and I was surprised that the applicable duty and taxes only came to $219 CAD.

Very true as the stand has a numbered Mercedes plaque that is riveted to it. I'm guessing that all the details of each motor are linked to the numbered plaque that is on each stand. Assuming that the metal stand is worthless I will probably use it to ship my 4.2L motor if I can't find a local buyer.

Actually, I'm betting that the stand itself is a Mercedes Benz asset. The original dealer was probably supposed to install the engine off of the stand and send the stand back to Mercedes. They may charge the dealer a fee for the stand and then it is refunded when the stand is sent back. I very much doubt that they build or buy a stand for every individual engine, they're most likely considered returnable and reusable.

That makes complete sense as steel engine stands such as this can't be cheap to produce. Unfortunately it would cost a fortune to send this back to Germany and I doubt they'd pay for the return shipping. Also, this particular stand has been in storage since 2002 so I'm guessing they wrote this one off long ago. Maybe I should contact Mercedes Germany to check for certain as perhaps they might want it back.

There is a core charge on every engine, so yes the dealer is expected to send the old engine back on that stand i'm sure.

It's a pretty cool part to have in that regard.

Hi Kowalski. Unfortunately summer is long gone and the rainy fall weather in Vancouver is here. The C43 and motor are hibernating in storage until March now. I will post progress pics once I start. I wish that we didn't have four seasons in B.C. CANADA as June, July and August is never enough of a summer.

hey bud

I put my car to sleep on Thursday, no more driving until next year in April-May 2017.
Dat's such a long waiting time for me!
Summer is over here too BORING!

Maybe you can do some prepare work on your engine in your garage when you're getting bored during winter season, make it ready for Spring 2017?
Only vörk you have to do is to remove the old engine from your car to plug in the new engine?

I am so damn jealous. Any chance I could snag that authentic engine stand for storing my original 4.3 motor!???
