WHY didn't some one tell me???
Ok so I am getting close to 1000 miles and getting anxious to really get on it . I thought I would just cheat and try a race start at about 975mi. so I go to a empty road and go to race and do a race start that works well but I have the HP and torque screens on the nav. screen and watched to see it get to 500 like I think it was Will said he saw. Wow it was a dog and the hp and torque was about 275 each. So I just try a regular start and the same.
About now I'm thinking about taking it back and trading for a 4 cyl. that would be faster. My small brain starts thinking and could it be that they limit power till 1000 mi.??? So I put enough more miles on to be about 1006 and try it again and still no power. I know computers have to be rebooted to reset sometimes so I go to a parking lot and check all temps and all are good and I shut down and restart and go and try it again and WOW now 500 on gauges and much more power.
Those dirty dogs limit power till 1000 miles and never told me.

Just a couple of other comments about above. After getting 1000 and restarting the engine seems to idle smoother. In C and S it idles at about 650 and in S+ and Race it is about 900.

what's next, mercedes gets busted by EPA like VW?
also, just so you know, these cars have so much technology in them and that they record everything. I would not be surprised that if something breaks, dealer rejects warranty saying you didn't follow break-in instruction, and they prove it to you with data recorded on the car.

A lot of worry for not, I never follow MB's break in procedure - snapped a driveshaft on my C63 ar 3k miles and a transmission input shaft on my E63 at 4K miles no issues covered under warranty without question. And in case anyone is wondering those failures had nothing to do with how the car was driven during break in

I'm not so sure this is true. M3/M4 owners also claim the car is detuned/limited until 1200 miles but there is no proof that its true. I can't explain your situation but I'm also a little skeptical that the power is held back until 1000. There have been a few dynos and track days by owners here and they have not reported that the car was anything less that what was promised by MB.

....and if it was true, all demo cars at dealers would be running less bhp than they should be which wouldn't be a positive move to encourage car sales if people are demo'ing cars with less than 1k miles on.
When I did a test drive the car had about 500 miles on it - the sales guy drove it hard, I drove it harder - certainly no 4500 rev 'limit' was adhered to

Did this happen in first as well as in second? Maybe the ESP was controlling the wheelspin in return killing the HP? What driving mode where you in?

Up till this time I never thought power was down because I never ran hard from low to redline and never watched gauges either.

Interesting experience I'm sure. I haven't heard of MB limiting the HP until 1000 miles. I had to go to avoid an accident before I got to 1000 miles, 880 or so, and it went to 5500 rpm and it pulled hard just like it does now.

I have got on it a couple of times before and it felt good but never to redline.

I have tried to think of any thing else and can't. Car never felt bad before because I ever tried it hard. I did this 5 times at 975 mi. and power down and gauge at 275 and after like nite and day and only after a restart at 1006 . Maybe a 2016 thing?? Others should try this and see if repeatable.

Will
Never a lot of wheel spin and only a chirp in race start but esp. was blinking during race start. other times no wheel spin and a couple of times started from roll in second and thru 4th.

I am convinced they are limiting power NOT rpm as the car both times before and after would shift at red line but it felt VERY underpowered and the gauge said 275 HP and 275 FT lbs. of tq.. I did this 5 times and it was same all the times. and after 1000 mi. and a restart the power was there and gauge said 500 on both.
Up till this time I never thought power was down because I never ran hard from low to redline and never watched gauges either.

I just received a call back from an AMG tech that reached out to his regional rep and was told he has heard about the power reduction on the 2016 cars during break in and will get back with more info later as he was on Vac. I also talked to another
AMG guy that is looking into it but has not called back yet.
I would like any one of you guys that have a 2016 C63S and is getting close to 1000 miles to try a run at about 950-975 and watch the power screen while doing power run thru the gears in S+ and see what you get. Then go OVER 1000 miles and shut car off -restart and do it again to see if what I experienced can be replicated.
When I get more info from AMG I will post and if any of you have a good connection please ask for details but it looks like they are protecting the engine during break-in.

Looks like I was wrong as it happened again today that I had no boost and only about 275 HP on 2 runs and after a 10 sec shutdown and restart it was OK. For 2 more runs it was ok and than no boost and a shutdown and OK again.
I'll post if dealer finds problem.
