Common problems with the W205 AMG C63
#76
My C63S has 6000km+ on the clock, today it threw in the 'Electronic rear axle differential lock inoperative' error.
Car had previously replaced engine oil sensor after showing faulty code to add engine oil. And also replaced the rear diff plug 6 months ago.
Took the car to the dealer, and shall report back soon, living with the creaking dash on temperature below 18C... else the car is a wonder !

My C63S issues - same as many of you
All,
My 2017 C63 S sedan was in-service 10/10/2016. Now 2500 miles.
I LOVE the car !
I copied and pasted my issues (below) from these users' posts:
VaserC63S, Will617, Ken Fox
1.) "Check Coolant" warning at 1000 miles. Dealer added. No issues since.
2.) "Low oil - Add a quart" warning at 2500 miles. Dipstick full. Dealer looked and agreed - do not add oil.
3.) Weird rear diff lock and dragging feeling while going up a multi-story garage.
4.) There seems to be a coolant smell all the time
Thanks for the posts !

Don't get me wrong I love the car too but am waiting to see what happens with the high oil consumption. My car unlike most is not just sending false signals it appears the oil is actually low as has been the case with the last three warnings which average every 750-1100 miles. Dealer said it sometimes happens when new and they are expecting it to revert back to normal range by about 7000 miles. W shall see. So far 3200 miles and 3 top ups. Otherwise car is fantastic. I can use softer suspension in comfort mode, but otherwise zero dislikes except the grand Ma gear lever. It's just not even sporty it's very GM pickup truck

Creaking dashboard especially when cold.
Driver's seat ticking/creaking noise. Seat is being replaced (a saga!)
Slight rattle from driver's seat belt port - seems to have been fixed or settled itself
Squeaking from driver's seat belt port - ditto.
Side skirt towards rear wheel needed pushing into clip.

New C63S Estate in Sept 16. Faults so far (2500 miles)
Radio service unavailable. Software corrupted/module in boot faulty. Module replaced.
Continual rattle from overhead console. Now replaced and fixed.
As I only do a low mileage each year, getting emails every few days with 'battery monitor - charge status critical'. Battery is currently on charge to top it up. Guess it's the heated seats/rear window etc draining the battery on short runs.
Hoping I'll grow to love the car, but unexpected niggly faults in the first three months of ownership mean I'm not there yet.
A little disappointed in the build quality for the price.

Goletiani: Is the kind of wind noise you are referring to a whistle?
Mine just started a few days ago and its LOUD. Dealer has no idea what it could be but, I am scheduled for service this Monday morning.

Center dash squeak (is there a fix? My dealer "lubed the front suspension as per bulletin" which did absolutely nothing)
Low coolant at 3k miles (where is the coolant going? pressure test came out okay... anyone done an oil analysis?)

Are you sure it's the centre dash and not the overhead console? It took us ages to track down the root of the rattle in my car from each door and the whole of the centre console. Eventually we found it was the overhead console....

99% positive it is coming from the center dash (as reported by other people here). I just took a video that I sent off to the my dealer as it makes the noise 100% of the time (not sure how they told me it passed qc?). I could create a youtube video and post a link I guess?

That's what made me a little wary of my C63. Right now I think it is a low usage issue, but I will watch it carefully. I hooked up a battery charger on Friday and gave it a good top up, so it will be interesting to see how long it will be until the message reappears. Strange that you are having similar issues with daily usage.
I'm guessing heated seats and heated rear window can't help, but hey, it's been cold outside, so these things happen. I have always turned off Eco mode, because continual start/stop of the engine can't help the battery, unless of course, they have a low current option in Eco mode to stop that happening.
Keep in touch....

I have the same issue with the rear axel inoperative message. On the 3rd visit they had my car in for a week, they said they updated the software after getting diagnostics sent to Mercedes. The dealer needed to update their "Star" software before the car would accept the update. Got car back 7th March and 8th of March same issue. It seems intermittent. But shows up more with I* (Individual) setting and bumpy roads. My concern is this happening on wet roads in corners as the car is a bit "Twitchy" anyway.

I meant to add, I also not convinced this could be a software issue as my car started doing this at approx 7,200 miles. Leading me to believe its mechanical as it has not shown up before.

For those of you with the rear diff lock issue, did you change the fluid at 2k miles as per recommended service?
One of the dealers told me to make sure to change it as it was known to cause failures down the road. Just taking a stab in the dark here...

this was the first and last time i have had the issue. it went away by turning the car off and on. i was able to get back on the road until I hit a pothole and blew out my tire.

Have been in once and they did something with a connector but it still happens. Planning a new visit.
Other issues with this car has been.
A totally broken down Command unit that was replaced and recoded with some beta software.
Rear camera lid not opening.

How many of these issues are sedan vs coupe? Just curious if the incidents of issues is less with one vs the other given that they are two different cars and different factories.

I had the rear axle oil change at 1000 miles as per advisory sticker on windscreen. So don't think this is the issue. I also had a call from AMG yesterday who are putting together a plan to rectify. They should be contacting me again later today. I also asked them to confirm whether this could be a potential safety issue as if the rear diff locks it surely affects handling in a different way.
