Just got some tinting done tonight - decided to go with 35% front and 20% rear. It's the first time I've gone without a uniform 35% across the entire car.

I'm liking the 20% a lot more than I thought I would. Unfortunately, Ontario law pretty much prohibits tints darker than about 35% on the front driver / passenger side windows. I see a ton of cars with what I assume is 20% or darker across the entire car. Anyone running this set up? Any run ins with the PoPo because of it?

The thing with Canadian laws is that it's very subjective in terms of the determinations made by the arresting officer, so if a cop is having a bad day, they could potentially hit you with a ticket and there won't be anything you can do since you are running 20% tint.

So just like carrying a decent sized knife on you here in Canada, you are fine until you aren't.

I'm actually going. To get mine done next week probabaly 20 all around ..

So I've thought about a scheme but never put it into action. Tell me what you guys think:

finding the fuse that controls the windows and putting a switch in it where it would be hidden but easily accessible for you while sitting in the drivers seat. So the scenario goes like this: cop pulls you over (for tint suspicions or whatever else) and you roll the front windows all the way down and then flip the switch so you can't get them back up. Now the cop can't access the windows and has no proof that they are illegal.

Would this work? Honestly, what could they say or do at that point?

My state's legal limit is 43% on the front windows I would be so happy if I could get the fronts down to match the rears!

I'm 20% all around installed by the dealership in the GTA and written right on my deal so my position is one of "ignorance" cuz the dealership did it.


I wouldn't worry about it, just get what you want.

I've had 20% Tints on all my cars and have never had any issues.

I would get 35% and not risk it but then again I'm too conservative.

Meanwhile, can we get some pictures to compare???

I have 20 all around and always did on every car. Just leave the sunroof "blinds" open that way more light come in and the cop sees you fine. If afraid when you spot one roll the window down...

Why would anyone live with these fears and anxieties in the back of their mind while trying to enjoy their special car...
I'm planning on going with a 35% tint... maybe 30%, no more.

Just comply with the law of your region..... and relax!!

The total ran me $350 cash (emphasis on cash lol) - covered with a lifetime warranty for the shop.

If I had gone with the house brand ceramic film it would have run me $250. I saw both that and the Llumar Ceramic - the latter was more to my liking.

The C63S looks so good in black, great looking spec Sanch. Like how you went with the titanium coloured wheels. I love a good looking black sports coupe; but here in Vancouver BC it just rains so much, the black is just too hard to keep clean or I would of probably gone with it

I love 20% all around ... i dont want people to be able to see inside my car easily .. but then again ... COPS!!!

Thanks mate, I agree it's a pain to keep clean. However the ceramic coating helps heaps!

I've been driving between Mississauga and downtown Toronto with this tint for the last 5 years and never had an issue. Sorry, don't know exactly what it is but looks close to 20% from the pictures above. Never been bothered by the police. Bought the car this way so haven't ever thought about it.

That's one fine machine. Looks to be about 20%. I pretty much do the same trek as you between Mississauga and Downtown. I'll give you a thumbs up if I see you. You'll definitely be able to see the thumbs up because my 35% tint is a little weak sauce lol
