Selecting Reverse

Selecting Reverse
Hi Guys,
On my C63s Saloon, I can select Drive or Neutral no problem.
On press of the gear shifter and its there.
With reverse how ever, seems to be very hit or miss?
If in drive, I press once, Neutral, again, still neutral!
Can be two or three more presses until reverse is selected.
Anyone else have this?

I feel you - I have the same issue with selecting park. I've had several instances where I've blipped park and it didn't engage until I held the button for a second.

I just hit the "stop" button and open the door. Boom, outta there!

I understand Park is automatically selected when you cut the ignition, but I never shut the car off until I'm exiting the vehicle. It's those few seconds between stopping/parking and exiting that I want to make sure the car isn't going anywhere.

2012 Mercedes C350 Coupe
I really really want to get this car. However, with the gear selector where it is and the weight of the car (nearly 4000 lbs), I think I'm going to go with the M2.
Hopefully Mercedes puts the gear selector back on the console in the next generation and shaves off some lbs as well. Just can't see myself living with these things on a daily basis and hard to justify the price premium. Also, why does the coupe weigh more than the sedan? Isn't a coupe supposed to be more agile and tossable?

Best position possible in my estimation.
Also no problem choosing reverse.
the M2 is a nice car but does not come close to the interior quality or power or great sound of the C63S.

I thought the gear selector was odd when I did a test drive. Now I find cars with the traditional gear selector odd. So much easier to reverse out of a car park and select drive without having to take your hands off the wheel.

Is everyone on the forum too young to remember that all(most) cars had the same stalk shifter location a few decades ago? Then they started going console mounted. Now they're back where they were.

I always select Park as soon as the car is stopped/parked in it's final location. I do it mainly from a safety standpoint; I know the car isn't going to roll/lurch/move when I'm not expecting it to.

My wife told me the other day that her grandfather had a car like that... back in style!

I'm trying to keep myself in the habit of always selecting P even though the W205 is idiot-proof. After a few weeks of driving my C43 I got out of our Touareg with the ignition off but the transmission left in drive. Big no-no.

Yeah I have the same, I pull up at work, select reverse to park just noise.
It seems I have press up once for neutral, press again for reverse.
But when in reverse, only one once for R to D.

I thought the way you do before I bought the car but now if I could choose where to put it I would choose exactly where it is.

I'm afraid to give up the column shifter on any future cars.
