This car eats brakes

At 15k I had to replace rear pads
At 23K I had to replace both front and rear pads (performed at indy shop for $1100 with parts and labor)

New front rotors are 1100 a piece, keep that in mind when you drive folks.

Before some keyboard warrior says welcome to owning a high performance car, I will respond I had a CLS63 before this, I am familiar with amg brake wear.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
It will be worthwhile to at least diy on the pads. There are some good videos on youtube.

Use the paddles to downshift when u need to slpw it down. Drive it like a racing car rather than a family one. U wil hav a big smile on ur face like mine.
mine has done almost 30,000kms without any pads needing replacement

This is what I do. It saves gas as well

Unless I have to stop abruptly, I can plan out my slowdown/downshifts and only hit the brakes once I get to like 10mph.

I miss having a true manual car but it is pretty nice to be able to downshift into 1st gear

Also, I've seen a lot of threads lately in the W205 forum about these cars eating brakes. One guy was quoted by the dealer to replace all of the pads. He then took it to an independent MB shop for a second opinion and it turned out it was just one inner pad that was worn, which indicates a defective caliper. Make sure you guys are doing your due diligence and not just handing the dealership stacks of cash upon taking their word for it.

Something wrong here. Front brakes provide about 70% of stopping force. 15k miles for rear pads is way too soon. And unless you routinely drive in a very "spirited" manner, 23k for both front/rear is also much too early.

I've heard this comes from the traction control/e-diff from.

Haha dude I'm sure he knows to let it warm up. Pretty common knowledge. Especially for someone that takes pride in owning a car like these.

I've noticed, mine included, that the rear wheels of the C63s tend to be dirtier than the back. Clearly this car is using the rear brakes a lot to make due with the measly 265s they put in the back!

Are there good options for rotor replacements? I looked up parts on Pelican Parts and 1-piece rotors are $150. While those parts show up for the '16 C63S, I do not think that is the right part for the car.

I have the standard brakes, and I get pretty much the standard amount of brake dust front to rear (they look fairly similar from a distance but there is noticeably more on the front wheels).

If you have the carbon-ceramic brakes, you will have basically no brake dust on the front wheels and 'normal' brake dust on the rears.

I have the standard brakes as well. Odd because most of the ones I have seen on the road look like mine with more dust in the rear. I do think the rears are wearing faster than the fronts, which is also unusual.

Does putting the car in sport handling mode reduce the rear wear?

10k miles in, virtually no wear on either sets of pads.

I replaced my rear pads at 16K miles and have yet to need front pads (just rolled over 20K this week), so I too experienced more wear on the rear pads than the front. That being said, I still get noticeably more brake dust on my front wheels compared to the rear.

As stated before, the increased rear pad wear is due to the use of the rear brakes by the ESP systems. This is absolutely normal.

If you don't want this to happen, just drive slower.

I had to replace front and rear pads by 12,000miles. Now at 20,000 and discs and pads all round are just about due.
I drive the car fairly hard, daily. It's about the wear I expected.

It really goes thru pads like nothing!!! I did mine at 11K (rear) and posted a video somewhere around here on how to do it. Its super easy to do.

Where are people sourcing rotors? Looks like Pelican's listing for what fits the car is incorrect?

I'm up to 20k and still have about 40% pad life in the rear. The fronts still look new, albeit I do have CCBs up front.

Even though front brakes provide most of the stopping force, it is not uncommon for the rear pads to wear out first due to the traction control system, which utilizes the rear braking system. So if you plan on driving hard with lots of wheel spin, change the ESP/traction control to sport or off.

Aint no way that's happening

How about turning the ESP off? Cause that's much more realistic

i wud only do either oem rotors or better aftermarkets ones from a we trusted brand -- its the most important part of a car so dont try to save anything on brakes

Got a feeling that a fair bit of the c63 owners arent using the paddles to utilise the traditional engine braking -- it saves your money by 1) reducing engine wear 2) improve fuel efficiency 3) reducing brake wear 4) giving awesome addictive exhaust notes 5) reducing emission of harmful chemicals - saves our earth 6) pissing off all audi rs and bmw M owners
lets do it!
ps anyone who doubts these benefits plz jst google engine braking
