So Who's Buying the W205 C63?

Hello gentlemen.

I'm just curious if the newly designed C63 with the brand new engine technology attracted new customers or not really that much.

No offense but I never liked the W204 until the facelift 2012+ but that was not enough for me to do the switch, but the all new W205 is a whole different story.

So, let me know where you guys come from..

I will start.
I never owned any Mercedes cars before and this will be my first Mercedes AMG

The technology, the design, the aero, and especially the engine of this car really shows how the crew in MB and AMG gave their best to produce such an art. The final result shows how much they invested in R&D to develop such a thing.

I wish the poll options were a bit more simple... the wording is a bit weird.

I will take a stab at fixing this...

Title: For those who have decided to purchase a c63, where did you come from?

1. I already own a w204 and will upgrade to the new w205 C63.
2. I have been a Mercedes/AMG fan for a while but never thought of buying a c63 until now.
3. I am a newcomer to the Mercedes/AMG world, and want to purchase the new c63.
4. I am a newcomer to the Mercedes/AMG world but was torn between the new c63 and something else.

2016 C63S
Currently drive a 2009 c350 which is my first MB.
I have been a big fan of AMG ever since I saw their AMG hammer at the Miami Beach car show in 1987 I believe.
I like the new twin turbo V8 design and of course one of the BEST V8 sounds out there period.

Totally agree with the above 2nd paragraph for me it wasn't until the W/C204 update came along that made me jump and buy one with all those subtle updates it is a lot better than the pre update 204 series.

I didn't opt for a C63 though as I needed a much more efficient daily driver.

I'm attracted to the new 205 series especially due to the new engine technology (and the overall vehicle tech) I'm a total fan of and prefer FI engines vs NA and the new M177 will have excellent efficiency, so next time around i'll opt for a C63

Only in my case I'll have a long wait because I'm interested in the upcoming coupe variant only.

I'll add a 5th line to the poll:

5) Your C63 or C63 S is already on order. (that's my answer) LOL

2015 E63S AMG & 2013 GLK350
I've long been an MB and AMG fan and owned a '13 C63 P31 coupe. I was really excited about the upcoming C63 - especially in how the coupe will look. Unfortunately the specs ended up turning me off and I ordered an E63 S instead, but do hope the platform turns out great and any issues get fixed during a facelift, maybe even add 4matic - that would put one in my garage for sure

This ^^^^

I have the same thoughts

For me it won't be a company car or lease job or other temporary ownership proposition so don't mind waiting for a mid life update which is always a much better product that the initial release of any new model vehicles.

And yes also quietly wishing it eventually comes with AWD, hopefully that will be part of the driveline options list by the mid life update and will transform the C63 into another level of performance and even other advantages compared to RWD.

Yes. I have never seen any company that invest so much money on such an engine for a compact car, I really appreciate what Mercedes AMG have done to the W205. I must say, I've never seen anything like that before.

Its not just the engine. AMG said that the electronic dif that are standard in C63 S were taken from SLS "BLACK SERIES!!"

Mercedes AMG put a new standards for compact cars and they earned my respect.

I really hope there's no issue with the technologies they added but I'm glad its not 4matic, I just feel connected to the car when its RWD and trying to control on the track . I like 4matic though, I just don't feel the C63 needs it.

I have a C63 on order.

Before ordering the C63 I had a CLS63, some one crashed into me so I sold the car.

I wanted something lighter but with similar power so the C63 was the obvious choice.

So Who's Buying the W205 C63?-iexro2b.jpg

Never seriously considered a C63 until I sat in the W205 last year. Was extremely impressed with the build quality over the previous generation.

I've been looking to buy a '11/12 Quattroporte GTS for a while now but now I'm split between the two. Completely different cars I know. The C63 is light years ahead of the Quattroporte in virtually every way. But the Maserati just has so much soul and exclusivity that the Benz can't match. I still think the GTS exhaust note will win me over in the end.

That Ferrari V8 sure is special, but everything else is lackluster. Shotty build quality, Italian electronics and and a terrible trans make this car more of a headache than its worth. You should also check out the prices of older quattroporte's to see how quickly they depreciate, more so than amg's.

Well said. I was never fan of Maserati either, sure you can be overwhelmed from their interior choices but everything else is just meeh

I currently own a W204 C63 and not planning on purchasing a W205. There are two "speed bumps";

1. No Euro Delivery. I picked up my C63 coupe via ED and loved the experience. Breaking the car in on the Autobahn was awesome. I want to pick up all my German purchases this way. When I heard it wasn't available for the next C63 it was a deal breaker.
2. Since ordering the C63 coupe we've had another child and there's a 3'rd on the way. I rarely drive the coupe now and even the sedan wouldn't be large enough. The new CTS-V looks promising and the next E63/M5 are definitely on my "hit list".

Never selling my W204 though.

This and that.
Where's the option for "Current W204 C63 owner and not interested in the W205 C63"?

Current LCI W204 C63 owner.

I will be keeping the W204 and adding the W205 C63 S. I have a feeling that regardless of the other cars I acquire, I will be holding on to my W204 for a while.

It's called "I don't belong in this sub-forum, much less this thread."

Only kidding!

Out of curiosity though, why aren't you interested? If you don't like the appearance, I can certainly understand that. Aesthetics are subjective and no one has any business buying a car they think is ugly.

Or are you interested in another car? There are tons of great options out there at the moment: F80 M3, ATS-V, AMG GT, Jaguar F-Type R, E63/E63 S, etc.

The main criterion I consider when getting a new ride is the test drive. Is it fun to drive? Will it make me want to go on a random drive at 3 AM?

Other less important criteria: exterior/interior looks, comfort, technology, customer service, etc. Fuel economy would be dead last, obviously. It is a nice bonus though.

BMW's M-DCT is phenomenal in M mode.

The MCT (capable of 100-millisecond shifts) gets knocked because it is less than stellar in M mode.

However, the automatic programs (C, S, S+) are absolutely outstanding. Whereas even the newest version of the M-DCT (made by Getrag) is susceptible in automatic mode to downright painful surging and bucking at low speeds.

If the new version of the MCT retains its smoothness while improving shifting responsiveness in M mode, I will be perfectly content.

Hell, the new ZF 8-speed "Sport Auto." transmission used by the F30 335i and Jaguar F-Type R is every bit as quick/seamless as the M-DCT in the F8X M3s/M4s I've driven. It's one of the best "auto" gearboxes I have ever used (had one in my tuned F30 M Sport 335i).

I agree, I dont have a huge problem with shift speed, but it sucks in M mode and a huge part of my enjoyment is using M mode. the auto programs are good, but it could be better.

I agree about the 8 speed auto, I'd rather see that in our AMGs than the MCT. It does all the performance stuff just as good, and its smoother on the road. I've driven a couple bmws with that transmission and I was impressed as well. with the MCT you kinda get the not so smoothness of a dual clutch and the slow shifts of an auto (not that bad but you get my point)
