I think this "late" introduction is making it hard for me not to wait until the 2016 model year. I was really hoping to get one by March or April the latest which is unlikely now.
6-8 weeks minimum is what I am hearing for order to completion so I am looking at June at best. 2016 orders will probably start in Oct .
I check the MB website everyday to see if the configurator is up. I'm thinking
my "deadline" will be March 15 so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Hmmm so looks like ED1's are being built way before the normal models. Wonder what build dates others have for their ED1's. Seems like Canada has it a bit differently. The system here shows the exact date that it's supposed to be built for example March 11th for me. Which for the U.S would be the second decade.

The earliest US builds are 4/1 Decade. Canada production is different despite both being assembled in the US. The E1's are starting production in June for US vehicles.

Also things have changed for the ED1 in the U.S? Since the order guides stated that they should be available at retail launch with final deliveries by July

Nope, although it should be up tomorrow I'm guessing since it's finalized already, and the MBUSA websites hints that the build configurator could be up at any moment.

I think it actually takes about 2-4 days for the car to be built. Although 30-45 days to deliver! Geez that's ridiculous if he lives in the U.S.

I think they dry it with heaters etc. Here's a video of the build process
Just read more into it and ya it takes about 17-20 hours to assemble a Toyota. 20 hours or less to assemble a golf depending on if it's a DSG etc. Which is all done in 2-4 days. So Mercedes should be around that range of 2-4 days also.
