Built-in turbos?

Sounds scary repair bill wise. Has this type of setup been proven reliable?

Unless you are mechanic or don't mind high repair bills, then Do not own any MB out of warranty.

Although with all the electronics in our cars these days .. It's cost prohibitive to own many different types of cars out of warranty

BMW uses a similar set up in their M5 and I haven't heard of too many complaints. I know its not fair to compare separate brands but you are asking if this setup is inherently troublesome.

I think that the engineering concept is quite safe and common, saying that I think that if they have any issue it will be due to location of the turbo's and the excessive heat that it generate after hard runs and when the car come to a stop.

The intake design on the W205 is pretty darn robust, fortunately. The A-wing front splitter also helps to force feed air into the engine when the car is at speed.

My BMW 335xi N54 twin turbo 6 had 2 Divertor Values with a charge pipe. I'm curious on how the Air/Boost upgrades will work. The CLA 45 does have a upgraded POV value.

An interesting way of referring to the "hot v" turbo configuration.

The turbos are mounted inside the V of the engine, rather than on the outside.

Ok, so why is everyone worried about this? This makes repairs easier if they pop out the top.

beacuse they want to get an early start on "monday morning quarterbacking" the MB engineers decision to place the Turbos in such an unorthodox place.

I'm not worried about it all. The F10 M5's S63tu motor has been using this same configuration.

So does GM on their duramax diesel for a decade. Works fine there and is easier to work on then pulling them out the bottom.

Isn't the warranty on these 4yrs 80,000km? Why worry about hypothetical repair bills that could happen somewhere in 2019?

Because AMG has put the same engine in the top of the line AMG-GT, I believe they tested the ***** out of that set up and are confident in the design.

Also a good point. The M177 and M178 are essentially two CLA45 engines spliced together.

And the 2.0L 4-cylinder in the CLA45 has 360 bhp. The new M177 is going to have major power potential. I'm guessing we'll see it in the new E63.

Chris Harris insinuated that it is capable of well over 650 horsepower.

It would be interesting to see if the E-AMG's are going to stick with the 5.5tt or downsize to the 4l tt.
