Winter Tire question

Does anyone know if 235/40 R19 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D would fit on the C63S even though the recommended winter size is 245/35 R19?

Also I have three choices in tires. The Dunlops, and Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta 7 (non studded), and Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3. Which tires would be the best for kind of harsh winters and why?

None
From tire reviews that I have seen, the Nokians provide the best ice & snow traction if the tires you've listed.

Wait where did you read that the recommended tire size is 235? I would think that would be too narrow for the rear wheels no?

Whoops that was a typo. Lol The recommended winter sizes are 245/35 R19 (front and rear) or 245/35 R19 in the front and 265/35 R19 in the rear.

Just couldn't find any good tires at that size so I wanted to see if 235/40 tires would fit.

Hmm, I was planning to go 255/35 R19 in Pirelli Sottozero all around. Would that still work for the front wheels?

Not 100% sure but I think there should be enough room to increase the tire size just a tiny bit.

I'm a fan of the Hak 8's studded as you see ..maybe try a search at the Kal Tire site for sizing ?

I'd like to avoid studded tires if possible since Edmontons a really weird city weather wise... For a few weeks we have a insane winter, and then for 1-2 weeks we have weather in the +'s lol. Then the insane winter returns, and then we have nice weather again etc etc.

Also just checked kaltire and I have some new options to add to the list.

Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta R2 245/35 R19 or 245/40R19
Michelin X-Ice® Xi3™ 245/45 R19 or 245/40 R19
Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 245/45 R19 or 245/40 R19
Dunlop Winter Sport M3 245/40 R19

Well i'm also in Edmonton. One set is for my wife's Lexus, one for my daughter's RAV4 and one for my other daughters Civic...i wouldn't have my girls on anything less...my take is you prepare for the worst..anything less weather wise is a bonus
I run Pirelli Ice & Snow on the ML63..not a good choice but I got them before I knew of the Hak's..may switch this week to these studded SUV 8's also..I ahd a situation last year where although I was barely moving the antilocks would not aloow me to stop...simply not enough traction..(hate the antilocks)

Good thinking. I'll have to consider them then lol. Luckily I still have some time to think about it since there's no snow in sight so far! Also are you in the Mercedes Benz Club Of Alberta group?

Just checked the Haka8 prices. Damn they're good
For the 245/35 they're $487 per tire
245/40 they're $354 per tire
245/45 they're $330 per tire.

Extremely tempting prices if you compare them to the other tires. Would probably go for the 245/40 or 245/45 though so that the cars higher up. That is if those sizes will fit.

Ya. We have tons of meets here in Edmonton. We even had a massive cruise and season closing meet in Sylvan lake a week ago. I'll private message you the link to the group!

Haha I'll just buy new winter tires. Thanks for the offer though!

I'll probably use my current wheels for this season then next year I'll probably buy some replica wheels. Also damn it's insane how expensive oem wheels can be.

Don't plan on driving too much this winter so that's why I decided to wait until next winter to get new wheels. So far I'm debating about 4 different replika wheels.

The R171

R157

R133A (Had these on the CLA 45 and loved how they looked)

R152

looks like 1010tires.com will sell Replika R157 8.5x19 with lowest offset and will guarantee fitment. Price is just a bit over $200 per wheel. And they will also sell Pirelli winter soto zero 235/35/19 square set up to fit.
