c63s coupe ugly rear bumps

Hey for all of you in the states that have the ugly rear bumps around the license plate in the rear, was it possible to do a delete on order?

If I am not mistaken we can't take these off ourselves after because it will leave two holes.

I think it totally kills the looks of the car, would be amazing to have the euro bumper

I completely agree with you on the issue of the rear bumps looking a little bit out of place. I don't think there will be a delete on order option because if I remember correctly they are there because of rear impact laws and standards in the United States, however I could be wrong on this.

I'm thinking of getting a C43 Coupe in the future when it releases and it will likely have the same issue, so I will be looking for a way to either not get it from factory or removing it manually later. I think the car looks way better without the bumps.

I'm 100% certain you won't be able to delete these. They are mandatory for MB to sell the car in United States due to United States laws. Many European cars have them, such as the AMG GTS and Porsche Cayman.

Just double checked, I made an error, it's the Cayman that has them, not 911.

Is there a picture of these rear bumps? I'm getting ready to place an order and can only find pics of the Euro bumper. Didn't know the US was getting another rear bumper?

Oh no!! I've been looking at this picture the whole time. Seriously disappointed! Are there other pics/angles of the US version?

Will there not be a way to remove them manually or have a body shop do it? I'm thinking those bumps are separate pieces from the panel so maybe they could just be removed and the panel might have to be repainted or touched up?

You can have it removed I think, but there will be holes in your bumper.. so you would need to fill the holes and repaint.

Yes I think they will. It really stands out on brighter colours. Darker colours like black isnt as bad, but still very noticeable

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Recently they are testing a Bugatti Chiron prototype with orange side markers and same rear bumps; likely a prototype for the US market. So, yes, even the Chiron will have it.

How do they decide which cars need it and dont?

I don't quite understand, how did the old C class not have them, or the E class coupe?

Most P cars don't have it either.

Not sure if those small plastic bumps are going to help too much with a rear impact, unless its parking lot speeds... even then it might need a repaint

The GT has them, too. I'm pretty sure we'll be able to pop them off. I'd just go with a Euro plate underneath to cover up the holes.

I've been doing some research and have found that these ugly bumps are referred to as "bumperettes". Some European cars have them but not many of them do, and it really sucks that this might be the single design feature that steers me (along with many other North American buyers I'm sure) away from purchasing any form of a C-coupe. Apparently it may be possible to remove them, but they have some sort of brace underneath them that is supposed to aid in reducing damage in a rear impact.

Honestly starting to consider if it would be possible (and how much it would cost) to simply have a European bumper shipped and installed after I get the car.

I have a feeling this is going to kill sales for the W205 63 coupe!

This would definitely be possible. It would be insanely expensive if you were to go with an OEM part straight from Mercedes since they like to gut you with their parts pricing (shipping is gonna be a lot too).

However, sooner or later replica parts from Chinese companies will come out for way cheaper. For a bumper the difference in quality shouldn't be tooo different....
