Burmeister sound system in C Coupe. Terribly crappy?!
Sat in a C300 Coupe, the Burmeister's sound was sooooo crappy, weak and shh!tty. Is it just my ears or it really is that crappy? Anyone? To me, the Burmeister in the W205 C sedan is at least a notch down compared to the W204 facelift's HK sound system, maybe even worse than the prefacelift W204's HK. What surprised and annoyed me is the Burmeister in the coupe is far worse than the one in the sedan, I might be able to live with the shh!tty Burmeister in the sedan, but I'm having a hard time digesting the sound quality in the coupe.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's as bad as you have described above but I will definitely endorse the fact that it is not one bit as good as expected from all the hype that was made of it when it was released in the new 205 series, although having said that I haven't had a chance to listen to it in one of the new C205 coupes only several sedans, may very well be the case that the different acoustics of the interior of the coupe make it sound even worse...
The questionable sound quality of the new Burmeister has come up in many other threads as well.

Yeah the Burmeister systems are probably just name branded, with every little engineering behind it. It's probably the biggest feature I miss from my previous 2013 Lexus GS. That Mark Levinson system T_T

Yeah I agree that there is so much that could be better with the Burmeister and as someone who listens to EDM a fair bit - it really is sub par on the base.
One thing the Burmeister isn't devoid of though us engineering. The mid range is excellent - and I run my Bass on +10 with the others on -2 or -3.
Also I have noticed that the EQ settings for radio are absolute garbage. I get 50% less bass from the radio. The best way to get a good sound is from the iPhone connected via cable (and with Spotify or streaming the SAME radio station). Streaming via BT loses bass as well so don't do it lol.
It's a joke that I have to do this as all it needs is clearly just some more EQ settings and it could be a really good sound system for all music types! There used to be access to these settings in the W204 via a secret engineering menu, but no one has figured that out yet for the W205
Jazz etc - sounds unreal as it highlights the only strengths of the system. It's reproduction of sound and mid range.

I'm not sure if the AMGs have the same Burmeister system as the standard cars. But the one in my sedan isn't as bad as you've described it to be. It's fairly decent, then again depends what music you're into.
I agree with points made above that the old HK system was better.
However, I prefer listening to the V8 exhaust note a lot more

Can totally relate to your point about wanting to listen to the V8 engines note than the stereo I have 2 V8 powered vehicles and do the same as you when I'm driving alone, ie. audio off or very low and just enjoy the sweet V8 notes
passengers and wife prefer the sound system lol
Not sure if it's the way to go about it or if it's the correct thing to do or if it can be added or fitted to a 205 but adding some sort of bass enhancement (amp, bass woofer speaker/s) might solve the problem.

I like the new system but would like a bit more freedom to increase the bass for certain songs. When I'm in the car with my wife, the system is perfect and I love the midrange. It's great for jazz and pop -- but when I'm alone on a 30 mile freeway ride, I would like a bit more thump in my hip hop.

Not really keen on adding a box to the back seat.
What other options do we have to add a couple of subs but keeping it stealth?

I hope MB do something about it and regardless of brand provide at least a proper or decent sounding system back in the C class, the addition of OEM sub/s would probably make all the difference.

I am not a sound guy but adding a subwoofer in the trunk? How will that make a difference for me inside the car? No laughs please, i love good sound and i specificly picked this because i was under the impression it was a "good" system but i dont know much about adding woofers and stuff. I was more of an performance freak than a sound freak in my younger days and i still am

Wow interesting read and eye opener for sure on this topic, I had no idea this system doesn't even use actual Burmeister hardware, the article states suspected HK speakers
