I declined for my MB--was ~$800. I purchased it with my E90 M3 for $300, which I thought was a good deal at that price.

BTW...how much did they offer it to you?

Got mine about $500 if memory serves. Seeing as it covers rubber and tires - can't go wrong. Think about the math, buy tires every two years, skip on road hazard. One wheel ding on a pothole - it easily pays for itself.

Best part - it's from MB directly, so I don't expect to be jerked around. Oh - and it covers whatever is on the car at the time of incident, so summer and winter sets are covered.

I wasn't offered this, can it be purchased after the sale and is it only for stock 18s? What about European 19s? It's been about a month since my purchase, thanks.

No I didn't damage a wheel but i figuered it's a good thing to have being that my tires are almost bald. I don't remember how much I paid for the insurance. It was somewhere around $800 tho. They even told me that it covers aftermkt rims but only an inch bigger in diameter than stock.

I see. But I'm not sure how having the insurance will do anything for your balding tires. The insurance doesn't cover regular wear and tear on the tires, right?

Buy tires every two years? I need new rears & I've only got 6000 miles on the car.

True. Actually, I managed to put a nail in one of my snow tires recently. Mercedes Benz patched it up for me for free. How's THAT for service, eh?

It constantly amazes me how people are so blase about insurance fraud. So often I hear people make statements like this, or about how they are going to add in additional losses to auto/home theft claims. This is a crime people.

And to those of you who claim this kind of thing to be victimless, have you ever wondered why car insurance premiums continue to rise despite a multitude of factors that seem to indicate they shouldn't, including a huge drop in auto thefts?

Obviously insurance fraud is not the sole reason, however the Insurance Research Council stated in Nov. 2008 that for Bodily Injury claims alone "[f]raud and “buildup” added $4.8 billion to $6.8 billion in excess payments to auto injury claims in 2007" and that "[b]ogus and abusive claims also are rising. They ranged between $4.3 billion and 5.8 billion in 2002, or between 11 percent and 15 percent of total payments." Again, these statistics are not even including give-ups (fraudulent theft reports) and other types of fraud.

Just something to think about and hopefully you'll think twice before committing a crime that costs us all a lot of money.
