WOW! Has anyone else tried this???

I've finally found an excellent use for the rear split folding seats!!! Probably the reason AMG made it a standard feature in ALL C63s!

On the way home today, I decided to fold both rear seat backrest down to see if I could hear the exhaust better from inside. All I can say is HOLY SH*T!!!
It sounds way more louder and vicious! I could hear all the burbling and backfiring, all the crazy sound of music!!!! A lot of stuff I hadn't heard before. If this is what bystanders are hearing.... It's loud!

If you haven't done this before, it is the next best thing (and maybe even better), than standing outside as someone else drives by or takes off in your car.

I'm going to try it again tomorrow morning on my way to work.

Vincent doesn't need folding seats because he has no roof!

Two more things I've noticed with the rear seats down:

1) It gets louder if you've been driving with Manual as I guess the exhaust heats up much more....versus when you just start driving from a cold start.

2) Don't leave anything in the trunk...otherwise when you brake hard, they will turn into projectiles shooting at your seat/dashboard/windscreen!

I can't believe I hadn't tried this earlier. I just love the burbling and exhaust backfiring as the revs come down or when I shift down in manual. I am hearing so much more!

I love the sheer passion people exhibit in the ownership of their car.

Way to go, GMW!

Way to go, GMW!
Thank you very much SebringSilver! Its good to know that the 'sheer passion' is appreciated. Though I must admit that no other car has ever made me feel like this!

Update on the folding seats:

Best combo is rear seats folded down, transmission in Manual (ESP can stay on) and all the windows closed.

Therefore, as the speed builds up you don't lose the clarity of exhaust sound to the deafening roar of wind from having the windows open.

So I put the seats down.. around 10PM, went on the highway and it probably wasn't the best time of night to do this as the highway was quite busy and filled with the usual "OMG Nooo other cars near me, lets hit the brake every 5 seconds" drivers, but I still managed to record a small clip. I will record a better one soon..

I've always wanted to do a proper soundclip of the sound of the car starting cold in the morning.

Totally! Btw the ticking noises that you hear out of the Seats Down audio file are salt hitting the car from every angle possible.. I gave up on maintaining the paint of this car! lol

I had tried this but didn't hear much difference. I was thinking of doing a ride around town with the trunk open and the seats down

What about running 4 lengths of garden hose from the tailpipes running up through the sunroof? That would be really loud! heh heh

Did you leave the windows open when you drove with the seats down?

Additionally, this won't do much if you always drive with your windows open. The fold-the-rear-seats-down only shows a noticeable difference if you always drive with your windows up. Therefore, after being used to the sound level from the exhaust, you will be quite impressed when you fold the rear seats down and continue to keep the windows closed.
