EXHAUST SOOT

Is it just me or does everyone else get a build up of black exhaust soot on the rear of the car. The minute I drive the car after a wash I have to wipe the rear down. Having white obviously doesn't help but it is annoying having to constantly wipe the rear down when the rest of the car takes several days until I have to wipe it down. The aerodynamics on this car really allows all the exhaust soot to collect on the rear.

Do you live at altitude? I've had that problem with all my cars as they tend to run on the rich side as I live at close to 4000 ft ASL. I have a California duster in my trunk at all times. Even with white cars, I dust it down every other day. Tail pipes are another story... haha, they are always black!

I used the California duster on my car yesterday and i think I might have produced some light scratch on the car. :o I lightly brushed over the dusty area and i checked to make sure there weren't any scratch. And there they were some scratches only seen from certain angles. Maybe the scratches were already there, i'm not 100% sure. :o

Dusters are great tools as long as your paint is as smooth as glass (you claybar, wax and seal frequently). If your paint is not smooth as glass dusters will not be able to lift off the dirt and it will be rubbed into your paint causing fine scratches.

My paint is pretty darn smooth. I have washed it once a week since buying it and have waxed it at least once a month. The car was smooth when i bought it too. I might have scratched it while washing the car though so who knows.

I have it, where ever it comes from. It almost seems like brake dust. Maybe it come from the disintergration of our rear Pirellis?

beat me to it I was going to say yes that is where our tires are ending up. Just dust off the rubber, save it and maybe someday remake our own tires, for sure there is enough rubber there. hehe

It's the same for all 204 models as well. Gets dirty as soon as you go a short distance. And I'd stay away from those california dusters. You will leave scratches regardless of whatever propaganda they say.

I threw mine in the trash as soon as I got a black car. These dusters just drag the dirt over your paint resulting in micro scratches that have to be polished out.

Brake dust, tire dust, and especially all the road crap in the air, all collect on the rear of the car. It's all part of the package.

It's why I bought a gray car
