Reversing rear passenger mirror moves when in R

So, I knew that my passenger side mirror moved a little bit when I put the car in R, but it was never enough. So one day, when in R, I adjusted it more thinking maybe adjusting the mirror in R is a special mode (that only comes into affect when R is selected)....and so it is.

For those that say their side mirror doesn't move when putting the car in R, the setting of when NOT in R and WHEN in R are probably just the same.

But here comes the kicker. I tilt my mirror down quite a lot to see the curb, and this morning I noticed that the faster you drive backwards in R, the more the mirror decreases the angle to compensate for the speed! How cool is that!

Anyway, just sharing some information as I remember some people mentioning they had issues with this.

LOL - I can image a car park full of C63's all in reverse going fast to test this feature out, haha

Try backing up really fast; the mirror won't tilt down at all because the car knows you're not trying to park.

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
And if you accelerate in reverse quickly enough, the mirror goes all the way up to forward driving position. Happens to me all the time when I back into the garage.

I can't get mine to go down further the quicker I go but what you can do is get the car remember the 'reverse' mirror position.

Simple put the car in reverse, adjust the mirror to the position you want it to go to when in reverse (right down if thats what you want) and hey presto...it will always go to that position until you adjust it again when in reverse!

is this the reason why the left side view mirror control lights up red when the car is put into reverse?

maybe that works for the 2010 but my 2009 does not do this. i have tried everything and it refuses period. the only way that works for me is use an other preset #3 for example with the exact same seat /steering wheel/left mirror position and adjust the passenger mirror accordingly and go back to #1 once done backing up.

my tech adviser at MB told me that they have done away with this feature with the C clas and even the E class. every car i have owned over the last 15 years has had it and the most expensive car i have ever owned is my current C63 and i have to do without it.
o well, lets enjoy what the beast does have to offer, horsepower ... anyone???

Instructions on how to set the reverse dipping mirror can be found on pages 103 to 106 of the North American Version 2008 Owners manual UNFORTUNATELY it also states that is a *Canada only option I guess a friendly Star Diagnosis visit could activate the option ?

P. 87 - 88 in the 2010 Owner's Manual.

1. Adjust when in reverse gear.
2. Adjust using memory button.

adjust using memory button? what does that mean?

does that mean to save where you want the mirrors while in reverse pressing the M button and the number that you usually save your setting on?

i think i tried that and it didn't revert back to what it was.

i found that the right side view mirror adjusts automatically when in reverse when you press the right side view mirror button. and when you go into drive or park, it will revert back to what it was.

I think you can put the setting you prefer into a memory button if you only want your mirror to adjust down when you want it to and not every time you put the car into reverse. Most times I do not want the mirror to adjust when reversing. Set M3 and pick it if you want the mirror to see the curb and then select M1 to return to your normal setting when you are done reversing.

Make sense?

Currently I have no settings as the mirror is fine for me without adjusting when I go in reverse. This is just a personal preference for me and other owners will have their own preferences.

i'm not sure what happened... but now the right side view mirror button lights up when i put it in reverse. and then the passenger side mirror automatically adjusts to show the car and adjusts down a little. once put back into park or drive and the light turns off, the mirror reverts back to where it was.

this is a whole lot useful than when it was the drivers side and it did nothing.

I have the MB Tex seats with no memory and the passenger mirror does not appear to move when in reverse. Does that sound right (sorry no manual right now)? Thanks.
