new here. quick question about oil

I'm new here, own a 2010 C63 Silver

Dad took it out for a spin and engine oil came on *low*, so he went to dealership to top off (i didnt know about until later). The next day i went to dealer to buy engine oil and was told all AMG in Canada uses Mobil 1 0w40, so went ahead a purchased a 1L bottle. Went back home dad said the guy topped off the oil with a white bottle of mobil 1 instead of the silver bottle 0w40.

No receipt.. dealer closed today..

1.) Anyone know if it could be 0w40 just in different bottle?

2.) could service guy made mistake of putting in 5w40? or it does run 5w40 sales guy gave me wrong engine oil...

3.) is it ok to mix 5w40 with 0w40 if they did make mistake.

Thanks!

neither are white as far as I can remember...it's a light silver so maybe 'whiteish' or a different brand of 0w-40 all together. I would just top it off with 0w-40

I use 0w40, but some dealers are using 5w40... they are both fine. I also heard it's ok to mix them... but i would mix it in small amount only if I had to.

HaHa... my dealer has been told to use 5W30 Mobil 1 in all AMGs. So for fun I phoned MBCan and they said either is fine as long as it is Mobil 1. SAE requires all oils to be compatible so for a top off it should not be a problem.

The oil dealers use is being inconsistently applied in a consistent manner. This is causing a lot of confusion for sure. The 5W40 Formula M Mobil 1 from the 229.5 MB recommended list does not even seem to be available in North America. That leaves us with 0W40 Mobil 1 or another choice from the 229.5 list.
