Cool Is it normal?

Hey guys,

I live in North JErsey and its pretty cold here these days. I recently noticed that when i first start the car and turn in my driveway it makes a cracking noice in the front. it keeps making the noise for a few minutes when i make hard turns but goes away after. Is this normal or should i take the car to the dealer?

When I'm pulling out of my driveway I hear a sound (and feel) like I'm scraping but I'm not. Not sure what that sound is but it only started happening since it's gotten colder.

Mine does it too. Thought it was the tires running over branches, and other crap at the end of my driveway. Wind has been crazy here lately. Cars now hibernating for winter, so if you guys take yours to the dealer. Keep us posted.

Also during a full lock turn, our front tires seem to ride on the very edge of the sidewall.. Maybe that has something to do with it,.

im not sure if im hearing the same thing... but i hear and feel something but to be honest.... i think its the WAY frozen summer tires loosing grip and skidding across the pavement. im pretty sure thats what im feeling. are you all using the Pzeros? thats whats on the front of mine. and i know when its freezing or below they are PLASTIC.

I have pzeros on the front, and am experiencing the same thing. My guess, its the tire being very cold, and almost plastic like till it warms up, turning the tire while not in motion causes increased friction on the wheel, and that is what I think we are hearing (ie, put your hand flat on a rubber surface and then try to rotate your hand on the fixed surface... best way I can explain it... my brain is frozen )

It's probably normal, but check the level of your power steering fluid just in case.

Yup, on my second set of P-Zeros. 10K miles. My next set of tires will not be P-Zeros.

living in NJ you probably either need two sets.. winter and summer.... or if you are like me in KY... just all seasons period. i have an SUV i drive daily and when the roads are salty in the winter. if i lived in florida i would use summers always. but i dont. i have had great luck with Yoko Avids on the rear. they seem to want to last a LONG time. search the treads here on them. when my Pzeros die on the front i will buy Avids for the front as well.

im almost certain what we are feeling is due to the Pzeros freezing and like Jvan stated... they are skidding across the pavement due to angle and being frozen. wont hurt to check the steering fluid... but i think its a tire issue to be honest.
