265/40 18 tires. Will they work?
Hi guys,
Quick questions, is anyone running these tires, and will they fit the rear? I realize they are a little too tall, but I'm looking at used winter tires, and these are the best deal (by far) that I can find. They are narrowbody porsche fitment, and I can't imagine they'd cause an issue on the back, but I want some more perspectives (and perhaps some realities!).

The load rating might not be up to par...you need a min. Load rating of 91 as the Merc is much heavier than the Porsche!

Not to mention that 265 is too wide for cutting down into the snow...I bought a package from tire rack! 1700.00 ++ they work great and had then in 3 days!

I dont think there will be any rubbing issues, Check the load rating for the tire. I have 225 all round and they worked well last night in the storm. 265's will tend to ride on top of the snow like a snow shoe. If they are the right price and they have a load rating of 91 or above. then it's your move!
Good luck!

You can fit 265's fine, I am running on 275 and I did a 2000 mile trip fully loaded including 450liters capacity XL roof lugage box.
My next set of tires will be the Nitto 285's. I am on stock rims by the way..

Im not worried about 265's (I use 275's in the summer). It's the fact that the regular tire is a 265/35r18, whereas these are 265/40r18. That is a taller tire, which could rub on the fender or the suspension bits.

for winters, not good. Most peeps run 225 or 235 on all corners in the winter.. you dont want wide tires in snow.
Go buy a set of 4 new 225/40/18s.. lots of deals to be had, check out Semperit rubber.
The fact of the matter is: Snow grip comes from sidewall.. you cannot get a fat sidewall winter tire for the C63 because you have to run 18" alloy winter wheels. So you have to get skinny.. if you want better ice traction, then buy the more expensive rubber (blizzak's, xice, etc)

Thanks for the info. I've decided to buy the set of Michelin Alpins (235/40 front, and 265/40 rear), but my old michelin alpin fronts were still good (235/40). I'll try to sell the 265s somewhere, but if not, I'll use them next season. In the meantime, I'll have 235/40's all the way around, which is ideal.
All in all, a set of 4 near new (11/32) michelin Alpins for $600 is less than 2 new at any local tire dealer (Canadian prices are ridiculous). Even if I take the 265s out to the country side and do a 5 minute burnout, it'll be a good deal.
