I would think the logical and rhetorical answer to your question is that it would depend on the aftermarket exhaust (or exhaust parts). The only other things I can say is that of course the oem stock exhaust does NOT drone...why would MB made a vehicle with an exhaust that has horrendous "drone" while driving it? And, I can also say that adding the MBH LT headers does NOT cause any drone whatsoever as well.

No drone on the stock exhaust. I was told by my salesman that the stock exhaust is actually a factory tuned exhaust. What I mean with "tuned" is that it is loud when it needs to be(heavy throtle) but quiet at iddle and for driving in city and HWY at lower rpms.r

+1 Virtually no exhaust noise on the freeway. All you can hear is wind noise from the side mirror and some tire noise.

Cruising at 65-75 there is virtually no drone at all, when I say very minimal droning I mean slightly louder then stock.
Yes, I am running stock mufflers.

I bought my X pipe through MBH and had an exhaust shop replace my resonator with straight pipes.

Here are 2 vids.

How much more exhaust sound do the MBH LT headers cause?

But what about just the headers, all else left stock (if possible). Most of the power increase comes from the header's increased airflow anyway (?)

If you mean LTH's then yes it will still be loud.
If you mean shorties then it wont be as loud.
LTH's will give you the most increase in HP since exhaust flow is greatly improved.

I have 4-1 headers, x pipe, no cats, 2 x 12inch hotdogs on each side just before the diff, using the factory rear box and tips. My exhaust is 3inch and I have zero droning. It is a little louder then stock inside but outside its sounds tuff and deep. When cruising slowly you wouldn't even know it has an exhaust set up put your foot down different story
