17mpg City/ 24mpg Hwy (not 12city/19 Hwy)
So for last few months I started a log book documenting the gas mileage. I have been driving in C mode most of the times and off course driving light on the pedal.
Considering the mediocre 91oct gas and the altitude in Tucson I think that I can't complain when I am getting 17 city. I also get 24.3 MPG on Hwy with two people and cargo and again on 91ot and elevation... can't complaint.
Botton line, the C63 AMG nicely driven can net you 5mpg better gas mileage. My car is stock except the charcoal removed. I believe the car showed signs of better gas mileage after my Service A which I suspect it got the 2010 factory flash but it is just me saying.

to be honest, I know that a lot of people don't care about the gas mileage and in fact many people will tell me why to worry soo much about the gas? why not buying a Toyota Prius?
I always thought that AMG lefts some links unsolved. The gas mileage is this car's achilles tendon. Cadillac gets similar gas mileage but has 100hp more and weights more, are you following me? I have always been a guy that likes to collect information.

wow.thats really good.gas is also pretty well priced where you are.do they have cash or credit price over by you?i pay $3.07 at the sunoco near my work for 93octane/credit.most gas stations around the area here charge 3.20-3.30 for 93/credit. i only have 2k miles, and the best i got so far on the highway was 20mpg at like 70-75 mph.i think it will only get better after the car has like 10k on the clock.i would love to be somewhere warm right now,"marco island". we are having a full on blizzard right now.really sucks,as my x-pipe is coming on on tue. and want to get it installed.

Good information.
I have also found better than advertised fuel efficiency for our cars. It makes me wonder whether the gas guzzler tax was truly necessary...
Obviously it was from someone's perspective/rules/criteria, etc.

On pure highway drives I'm getting 20-21 but around 15-16 in the city. I suppose if I babied it I could eek out better mileage but that wouldn't be as fun as seeing the traction control light..

Depending on what you mean by "highway" mileage, if you are talking about steady-speed interstate cruising at 70 - 80 mph and you are only getting 15mpg then there is something wrong with your car. I do a long freeway commute to work every day, and on the highway this car easily gets over 20 mpg, drops to about 17 in mixed driving, and drops to about 12 in stop & go or agressive driving.

The best I ever saw on mine was 20.00 mpg when I drove from New Orleans to Naples. Average speed was about mid 80s. May be if you drive at 65-70mph, you can get higher ??
I agree that I could not stand driving like that to get better gas mileage. I did not buy the car for its great gas mileage but I agree with you that engineers have not done their job to maximize mpg.
A corvette with similar power gets high 20s. There is no excuse.

Drive the 63 engine mildly and in a short time you can experience carbon build up and pinging, especially if you are doing short trips.
Have just gone through all this in my ML63.
The Mrs always uses it in C mode and drives short distances to the shops.
Now it stays in S mode only and I drive it a little more, M mode as well.

So I did my latest gas mileage test. I drove this morning from Tucson to Phoenix on Interstate I-10. I set my cruise control at 65mph and I had the steel nerves to cruise like that for 48 miles until the MPG wouldn't go any higher. I am saying this because the traffic was passing me at 80-85mph.
The results are that at 65mph with the A/C off will net you 27 MPG(even). Keep in mind that I did this test with the A/C off for some time and outside temps of 108-110.
After all I think that this car is not that aweful in gas mileage, that 7th gear helps a lot.
My last observation is that the ECU/on board computer takes a long time to give you an acuerate MPG reading. It took me about 45 minutes and 48 miles to finally realize that I was reaching the best gas mileage. In other cars you would get this reading much sooner. My .2c

Why knock a guy when he is making good observations. If Merc got better mileage like a vette can with the Z06, it wouldn't get the gas guzzler tax and force them to go to a smaller engine in the next edition of the car.
I have a 400hp cummins, I am always messing with it to try and get increase my fuel economy and avg 19mpg doing 75 mph. My c55 get 24 doing 75 mph. If you want to drive fast, put your money where your mouth is on the track where I avg 5 mpg at WOT for 2 hrs.

I never understood the guys who measure fuel economy in gas guzzlers.
I have a saying in the boaters world. (Who knows if its been used before) "Do you know how to get the best fuel economy in your boat?" "Sell it"
5 MPG at WOT for 2 hours? Hmmm... now thats an interesting topic. I chew through 10 gallons of fuel at the track in about 40 passes. So the C63 gets 1 MPG at the track doing WOT passes for 10 miles. Cool...

^^^ Propain,
I also drive my car hard here and there. Just because I am posting a gas mileage observation doesn't mean that I purchased a C63 to get 27 mpg at 65mph.
I could go and start talking smack about whenever someone runs 10 sec in the 1/4 mile or if someone made 470whp on a dyno but I don't critizise it. I could just say " buy a real dragster instead of drag racing a Mercedes" ....(I am talking ironically).
Take care!

What you are doing is taking a Toyota Corolla and running a 1/4 mile with drag radials and an intake mod and posting the results. While they are fun to see its not what the car was meant to do.
Its my opinion so take it or leave it, but I really don't think many people here could give 2 cents about driving in C mode at 55 mph to get the best gas mileage.
Take care!

Haven't really paid any attention to my gas mileage, but this comes as a pleasant surprise.
My 07' Escalade used to get 8-10MPG, then again I was on 26's which add alot of weight so I'm happy with the C63 in terms of gas mileage.

forced injection is why Caddy gets the better mileage and more power. but we all know that. just saying.
also i can confirm what an earlier poster stated in reference to carbon build up. these 6.3 liters NEED to be blown out. if not you will have some issues.
but to the OP thanks for the data. the gas mileage seems to really flucuate dramatically based on just small throttle changes. just make sure you blow it out every once in a while.

can anyone else comment on their mpg on the 2012 c63?
i know, i shouldnt be talking about milage on a car like this, but it would be nice if i even got marginal better gas milage than my m5, in which i typically got around 9.5-10.4 mpg...absolutely horrible. ($60 every 2 days in gas.)
dont really care about highway milage.

With my 2012 C63 I have gotten 22.19 MPG (Im converting from L/100km). That can probably improve since it was at break in and not really on the highway. My next highway trip will be tomorrow night when I drive to the airport I can post it then. When Im in S+ (which is most of the time) I average 15.18 MPG - 13.21 MPG city driving. S+ doesn't change fuel efficiency on the highway as much since the engine is kept at cruise. It really kills you in the city though with all the accelerating and decelerating
ps. 17 MPG seems quite high! Congrats on the OP getting those figures with out an MCT.... I know I couldn't drive like that! So no city driving figures in C from me haha
