Torn on decision

I'm currently in the market for another car and have been looking at the usual suspects, IS-F, M3 and C63. I'm looking at buying used, 09-10 preferable. I thought I was sold on the C63 but after looking at the 2012 coming out in September I'm worried it will kill the value of the 09-10 if I were to buy now. I don't know a lot about the history of resale on the AMGs but I was hoping to get some intel from the experts here.

Should I buy now or get the M3 instead because of the incoming depreciation hit next year?

TIA

Although these 3 cars are considered direct competitors, they are each very different from one another and you should decide based upon which makes that impact with you. You should be spared from the bulk of depreciation regardless what happens with future models.

PS: just a reminder that nominal money buys a tune that will undo the MB detune and provide apx 520 bhp

I agree on the car differences. I really want the C63 (hence why I post here) but new styles in most cars = big depreciation hit which is my cause for concern. The new one will have MTC, updated interior, etc. Lots of goodies that could have a big impact.

Keep in mind that te ISF has been redesigned for 2011 in terms of a retuned suspension setup and a few other upgrades that improve the handling. The BMW m3 i due for a redesign sometime in 2012 or 2013 also. Eitherway, you're due for a hit in resale value. Just buy what you like and enjoy.

You're already doing the smart thing by buying pre-owned. Just find a good deal and enjoy!

I would only look at the M3 if I didn't need 4 doors. The coupe is just sexy! Much better looking, IMO, than the spy shots of the upcoming C63 coupe.

I already ruled out the IS-F. Great car but doesn't have the look I want. The M3 coupe is very nice. Is it sacrifice 4 doors nice, I don't know. I'm looking at an 09 C63 with every option including the performance pack tomorrow. We'll see

Any big gotchas I should look out for that are MB specific? I already know the standard norms of the carfax and what not.

If you can wait until July or August, I have a feeling the 2011's will see huge discounts, maybe even better than the $17k off I got on my 2010. You may be able to buy a brand new 2011 for not much more than a used 2010 right now. I paid $52.5k for a $69.5k car last september. If you really need a car right now and can find a clean 2010 at a great price ($20-25k off MSRP), I say go for it. Don't worry about the depreciation when the 2012's arrive. The new cars are not spectacularly different from the previous model. The biggest thing is that they have the same engine. The MCT transmission is nice, but it is not going to be a night and day difference like the AMG Auto vs. M3's DCT. Get a cheap tune and you should be good to go!
