DIY on H&R springs
Hi everyone,
I did a search but could not find a DIY on how to remove the stock shocks in order to change the springs? Is it something easy to do in the garage taking the fact that I have a friend who has a spring compressor. TIA!

It can be a DIY. Has your friend done this sort of thing before because it can be a dangerous procedure to remove the front springs from the strut. There is a DIY in the w204 section. Good luck and stay safe.

I did mine and it was not too bad. The spring compressor I used on the struts bolted directly to the springs with C clamps so that removed some of the risk of them coming off and the spring flying.
Here is the DIY from the C 204 forum and it is OK but you will need to read between the lines a little and he will take you off to a false start on the back so read the whole thing through and get comfortable with it. You only need to unfasten the inner bolt on the lower control arm on the back but the exhaust is in the way so I undid the rear hangers and could move it enough to get the bolts in and out. Use a floor jack to lower and raise the control arm to get the spring out and the new one up into position to get the bolt back into place.

Thanks Sin & Mort... you guys are awesome!! My friend did his own drop on his BMW 325... so I will have to see if our cars are similar.

Good luck! I always start in the front of the cars I have done. This way, you get the difficult part done and the rears are a breeze. If you have access to air tools, it makes the job a little easier.

^^ Is your car dropped Sin? If so, did you do it urself? Rubbing issues with your 19's Kleemann?

Not now. I have back pain issues (spasms) that I have been dealing with and I pretty much stopped doing this kind of work for the past couple of years (age). If I do get it lowered, I'll probably drive to LA to have it done. There was a forum sponsor here charging ~ $450 installed.

You guys have it good down south! Tirerack wants 400$us for the springs shipped to my door... and my garage wants another 350$ to install... that's why I'm considering the DIY.
